Wearing shoes with no socks in cold weather
I knew my heart was in the right place
I knew I'd be able to do these things.
And as we watch him digging his own grave
It is important to know that was where he's at
He can't afford to stop...That is what he believe
He'll keep on digging for a thousand years.
I'm walking a line
I'm thinking about empty motion
I'm walking a line
Just barely enough to be living
Get outta the way
No time to begin
This isn't the time
So nothing was done
Not talking about
Not many at all
I'm turning around
No trouble at all
You notice there's nothing around you, around you
I'm walking a line
Divide and dissolve.
Never get to say much, never get to talk
Tell us a little bit, but not too much
Right about then, is where she give up
She has closed her eyes, she has give up hope
I'm walking a line
I hate to be dreaming in motion
I'm walking a line
Just barely enough to be living
Get outta the way
No time to begin
This isn't the time
So nothing was done
Not talking about
Not many at all
I'm turning around
No trouble at all
I'm keeping my fingers behind me, 'hind me
I'm walking a line
Divide and dissolve.
I turn myself around, I'm moving backwards and forwards
I'm moving twice as much as I was before
I'll keep on digging to the center of the Earth
I'll be down in there moving the in the room...
I'm walking a line
Visiting houses in motion
I'm walking a line
Just barely enough to be living
Get outta the way
No time to begin
This isn't the time
So nothing was done
Not talking about
Not many at all
I'm turning around
No trouble at all
Two different houses surround you, 'round you
I'm walking a line
Divide and dissolve.
Yes, yes he did. Here's a great video of them live (with Mr Belew) in Rome if you've not yet seen it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwWW742T0Wc
As an aside, don't know where you reside, but Jerry Harrison and Adrian Below are doing a Remain In Light tour in the US next year. Incredibly tempted to see them.
That Rome show has enough power to light the whole city. Not a single, solitary body in that place that wasn't getting down. Too bad the audio quality is kinda low-fi.
Was lucky enough to see The Remain In Light Reunion last year you mentioned and it was damn fine. Got backstage and both Harrison and Belew are super nice people. Belew reminds me of a goofy uncle that just loves what he's doing. Fantastic show and set and I think they extended this show.
not THE Talking Heads.
Love the guitar work on this. Adrian Belew played with them live?

I think that the people who don't like the Talking Heads are people who don't run.
...and surely their houses do not move!

If you look objectively at the components of this band, regardless of how it sounds to you, it's not that hard to see why lots of people like them...
- often clever, topical, political, intelligent lyrics
- talented musicians and often talented guest musicians
- often chunky, rhythmic move your butt beats
- quirky and different
Again, I totally get how voices and sounds can be irritating, but you're just showing your intolerance and narrowmindedness by calling them, and by extension their fans, idiots. PSD is your friend in these cases...

I like The Talking Heads
Apparently didn't read the name of the album or the group. (Or wrote it ironically to see if anyone would notice) ;)
My mathematical mind sees that as 1.1, though I know what you mean. This isn't one of my top live TH tunes on RP, though I still rate it an 8; the album version is a 9. Long Live RP!!

Makes me one of a kind. I detest them and I do run
I read your book. I didn't get it.
I think someone just needs a hug...
The release date is wrong--this was a double LP that came out in '82. Kinda weird that the band released another live album ("Stop Making Sense") two years later.
And it still is great!
This is why I value Radio Paradise. There's still stuff played here that I detest, but since the vast majority is stuff I like, I try to be patient with music that doesn't sound like "music" trusting Bill's taste / expertise. Some never wins me over but there's also a hell of a lot of stuff played here that's new to my ear and is "love at first hearing". I like that it doesn't get me into a rut of always falling into my own musical comfort zone, while not over-exposing me to the "bubble-gum du jour".
The Talking Heads were a great rock band in their day, regardless of the label you wished to put on them.
Byrne continued on with an interesting a creative musical career.
It's fun hearing them live. Thanks for playing them.
You can hear them all cranking away, and they seem in conflict with him saying, "look - I'm singing an important song here."
Perfectly put. I love almost all kinds of music, and I am a multi-genre musician myself. But I can't stand these idiots. I swear, people only like them because they are supposed to like them!
Interesting that the total votes for those who rated this 1,2 or 3 is the same number as rated it a 9.
Sorry, one of those sucko-barfos is mine ~
I like them because I like them you arrogant douche!
I'd put them in one category with rap and other urban "music". Simply not likeable, but peer pressure creates Stockholm syndrome.

.......... and me
Thank you for your thoroughly one sided opinion but in truth they did make great music. I don't listen to them anymore that often. I did see them twice in concert in my younger days. Great dancing music, great partying music. But like a lot of bands, they did get kinda weird towards the end. But they are artists in the purest sense and should not be dismissed.
And how can you not like Psycho Killer?
... I even had to play TWO different songs before this horror was finally over :)
Oh my... you "even had to play TWO different songs". That must have been so hard on you. Wah!
Cry on.
By the way...Not a fan of DB or the Heads. Ugh.

Yeah, peer pressure, that explains it.

i didn't get bored by them !
Has sarcasm not yet reached the Netherlands?
I read your book. I didn't get it.
I like The Talking Heads
You may say to yourself, ''My God! What have I done!''

The Talking Heads were an American rock band that formed in the early 1970s and was based out of New York City. Their sound combined punk rock, pop, funk rock, art rock, and later in their career, world music. In David Byrne, they had one of the most distinctive front men of the period; they were extremely popular while they were originally together, and continue to influence many musicians to this day.
Why I love them - I was introduced to them while in high school to a friend who suggested that I watch Stop Making Sense. My favorites include Cross-eyed and Painless and the album The Name of this Band is Talking Heads (album art pictured).

this is from the 80's and their first album was '77—so weren't they more a late 70's band/80's band?
—I agree with you about the 70's being sucky but don't agree that the music was bad in the 70's.
The 80's were bleak, somewhat, but I wazza punk and we expressed our frustration with the suckiness of both of those decades.
It's interesting you call their first album "hippie." Oh, I don't know what anything means, anymore. It's just a big, black, nothing.

The dude abides...
"life in the bush..." is one of my all-time "weird music" favorites. All done by splicing tape, too! Glad to see it mentioned here.
You do realize none of your 10s was released after LBJ left office, right?
I'm pretty sure this is sarcasm... I think...?
ha ha! I am totally middle of the road with them! they're okay but nothing I'd shout about either way

Saw him in Philly. Fantastic show. Amazing how fresh 30 year old songs sounded. Houses in Motion was particularly good, but then again everything off of Remain in Light was epic. I can't believe he played "Air". Brilliant.
Just curious: What could you fill in the blank with that would make the Talking Heads "not that great"?
Love Talking Heads!!!
Their music doesn't appeal to the simple-minded.
How 'bout we start up a separate Radio TH-Byrne channel.
Go ahead y'all! Don't let the door hit your fat asses on the way out! And good riddance.
YOU tell'em Peter James!! They're all a bunch of whiners!
This track defines experimental funk. I'm with the 8-9 voters, who seem to be in the majority on this one.
yes, please stop! arrggh.
The Remain in light`s version is better! But is a great song.

Rated 1 on principle...WAY too much TH/DB on RP!
I mean, we hear at least one TH/DB every day. Why? They aren't THAT great, especially when compared to <fill in the blank>. What other artist do you hear EVERY day here, other than tracks from those "new" CDs with which Bill is infatuated at the moment (i.e., Elbow, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, Madrugada, Jenny Lewis, et al.)
Ugh!
yes, please stop! arrggh.
That was Adrien Belew.
