Ooh! I never heard this one in 15 years of RP. How's that even possible? Nice.
I love love love this band.
Something different, funky, quirky, unusually and musically very good, as I would expect from RP!

superb ....

So agreed! Hope people try the other ones before this, or realize there is more...Seeing Hands just smashes all the right distorted-guitar chords in a very sitar-dangdut-like way, and the gal's capable vocals do lots more on it than in this one...
Saw a cool U-Tube vid of Seeing Hands that was good to look at too...
I think this is the third best track on the album, although still quite good. I realize I am in the minority in liking this band, but what the heck. They are fun and different.
The coolest new turn-on artist from RP...thanks Bill...though I dig Seeing Hands more than this track (and like their 2nd record better than their first and this one best), the main thing here, I think, is the opportunity to break patterns and ruts. Plus, especially apparent after more listenings, the music is uniformly jamming!
All this Fever has made me dig out my old dangdut tapes (this parallels old Elvy Sukaesi stuff very closely!) from my wild adventures in Sumatra, Java and Bali...
Music IS the Universal Language! Go Bill! More Parallel Universes, anytime, onegai!

HEY! Quit scalding that cat!
This is really bad...
It reminds me of Tarantino

Hey "Isle of Style" --- sometimes the flavor of the month is just that.

So far I'm missing whatever is causing the buzz around this band. When it plays here I invariably have to stop what I'm doing and find out what the gawdawful noise is.

Anyone know why they chose the name "Dengue Fever"? Just curious why you would name a band after a nasty tropical disease...

My theory on why this album is being played so much despite abysmal ratings across the board:
The RP bandwidth bill came in a little higher than expected this month. If this album can drive away a few listeners, the cost goes down to a more manageable level.
I've tried and tried, and can't think of a more realistic reason to constantly have this garbage in the rotation.
Seems Bill has got caught by a bit of the Fever considering the increasing number of Dengue Tracks on RP.
Not complaining though, I'm getting plenty hot too. ;)
Reminds me of weird asian movies from the 80-90s

The haters are all crazy. This is a great album. It is heavy rotation in my world. Bill rules.
I won't cop to being either a racist or a hater. I just don't like this music. I think it sounds screechy and unpleasant. That doesn't make me a bad person, just someone with different taste.
Reminds me of Yoko O.

I don't know. The instrumentation's pretty good, but the vocals kinda grade on me. Not that I'll call it "bad", just not appealling to me.
Maybe its like the Dave Matthews Band - just gotta listen to it over and over and over and over again.
???????

Sorry haters, I gotta give most anything from Dengue an 8...

Bill's certainly entitled, but this seems to be a case of Bill trying to promote an artist he really believes in. But you know what they say about leading a horse to water... There are certainly worse things played on RP, but the ratings on Dengue Fever largely speak for themselves. More than half of us are at least tempted to change the station when this stuff comes on. I know I just did.
This is much better than the music I heard in Thailand 30 years ago. But that was a pretty low bar. Different yes. But not great. A 7 and definitely lower if played often.
Just when I was starting to get bored with the usual selection. Interesting and fun! More!!!
Wing joined a band?

Great long interview with this group on Fresh Aire on NPR yesterday. It's Cambodian. Taken from older music - most of whom the musicians were killed for having Western influences. Clearly I'm no expert, but found fascinating and good to listen to!

I heard that piece on NPR too! So I was interested to hear this on RP. I liked the songs they played on Fresh Air better.

Very cool. NPR had an interview with these guys on Monday night this week. Here's the link if you're interested in checking it out. They have a cool story.
I agree. If by cool you mean bad.
Sounds better today than yesterday. Give it a 6. Still don't think she'll get very far on that moped riding sidesaddle without hanging on.

Sorry Bill, I really wanted to give it a chance, but I find that voice similar to fingernails on a chalkboard.
Me too, Bill, but I'm with Laurie. Eek!

no more. not digging them at all.

Please leave on the moped you came in on....
Sorry Bill, I really wanted to give it a chance, but I find that voice similar to fingernails on a chalkboard.
Right.

Bill need to hear more, interesting so far.
Agreed. Just play the whole album. I'm digging it.
i got the album the other day thanks to you, rp. it is definitely "different." shades of pizzicato five. a little.
Reminds me of the 6 months I lived in Thialand. I would've killed to hear anything half this good and this is pretty awful.
Sorry, Bill. Broooootal!!!!!!!
Bill's getting crazy on the Dengue!!! It eases joint pain and soothes sore muscles.
Interesting. The music is a 9, and the voice is a 5. I'll give it a 7.
Bill need to hear more, interesting so far.
Bill....don't know if you've nabbed any songs that have english lyrics...but, the couple I heard last night were really great!
May make Dengue a bit more palatable here on the boards?
WTF?
Tarantino film?
Nah, bad Saigon karoke.
I didn't care for this squealing at 10:30 this morning and I don't really care for it now either.
10:33 am - Dengue Fever - Seeing Hands
I like the other tracks from this album that have been played on RP far better than this one.
I'm starting to dig this band. Very "catchy" LOL. Thanks, RP, for turning me on to a band I'd never have heard otherwise.
This morning, I think there were 4 songs in the database, now there's at least 9, 2 debuted today (so far). I guess Bill wasn't kidding when he said he was really infatuated with these guys.
EDIT: Bill played 4 of these for the first time today, 2 more debuts still to come!

Sounds like something that would fit into a Quintin Tarantino film. I dig.
Oh Goody, more Turkish delight from this way out band! ......yeah, I know, they're not Turkish! You know they remind me of a modern day B-52's with a little more subtle-T
