When I woke
I took the backdoor to my mind
and then I spoke
I counted all of the good things you are
and that list of charms was
longer than my chain of broken hearts
and when the day was done
I figured I had already lost
from the start – from the start
I was gonna love you till the end of all daytime
and I was gonna keep all our secret signs and our lullabies
I was made to believe that our love would grow old
we were gonna live in a treehouse and make babies
and we were gonna bury our ex-lovers and their ghosts
baby we were made of gold
so many times
we drank fine wine in one swallow
and in those late nights
we painted our walls bright yellow
I took the backdoor to my mind
and then I spoke
I counted all of the good things you are
and that list of charms was
longer than my chain of broken hearts
and when the day was done
I figured I had already lost

Just saw her at the Largo in L.A. last night. The night before she was at the Hollywood Bowl with Peter Gabriel. She was perfect and very nice to us all. In person her voice is perfect. There were only about 60 of us and she took the time to thank us all and sign for us. She is as sweet and sincere as they come. I wish all could see her sing, it is a treat I would do it again in a heart beat.
It has a Dolly "nine to five" quality to it...but i'd never buy one of her recordings
This sounds nothing like Dolly. Y'all're nuts.

Especially the chorus.

Sounds like the Lullaby League in Munchkinland.

I was thinking the same thing
Heard something else from her yesterday. Didn't like it either - so, so contrived. But at least she's consistent.
sounds like dolly parton.
Gah! That's horrible.
That chorus is just downright ghastly.
Bill, you have played this every day for the last three. And always when I'm working. Please. Don't make me sick of this song.
Chipmunks in that treehouse?
I generally like Ane Brun's songs here on RP but this one is insipid.
Yes xs9095, it does sound like Victoria Williams, you're right! That would explain why I can't stand the vocals on this particular song.

sounds too much like Jewel! arrghh! ">
What the heck? She says the making babies part twice? I thought that was just a stupid verse lyrics -- but no! She thought it was good enough for a chorus! Wow!
At first I thought the BGT lead singer had figured out how to annunciate.
...for just a moment i thought i heard joanna newsom's voice...
Young Dolly Parton?
