Maybe I missed it on the other side of the pond, but I think Bob Weir isn't mentioned enough as being an excellent rhythm guitarist...Just listen to this...I think he is vastly underrated...

Man, that's such a great image. And I've never had that experience, but I can absolutely picture it.
Now what do we have... people going to Burning Man at a ridiculous $575 each and of course all those Coldplay and Taylor Swift concerts. I wish Generation Z had some better options. I feel sorry they don't have some of the great cultural events that people had in the 1970s and 1980s.

Don't mean to speak ill of the dead, (so to speak) but I do struggle with the veneration. I listen to this and am reminded of Brother Rabbit "You're spiralin' brother."

When Jerry would sing that line "I wish I was a headlight on a Northbound train" the second time (for emphasis)... it was powerful and sublime. Palpable raw energy. Every. Single. Time.
Over 23 years now and I still get chills thinking about some of those good old GD shows.
The double GD entendre not withstanding, I agree this band creates an energy that can hypnotize and please.

Judy Roderick's Woman Blue predates this and is a beautiful rendering of an old Folk Tune which the Deadheads called "Rider" and surely inspired Jerry and the Boys. Oddly, it was turned down here from my submissions. Give her a listen.

Thank you. I was there that night as well as MANY other nights on that Europe 72 tour. The Dead were at their best as a shoot-em-up barroom band. I tripped my brains out and touched the golden light. Miss you when you're gone? You bet.

My cousin Ronnie gave me this as a graduation present and I wore the hell outta that album. It had just came out and blew me away. Thank you dear cousin, RIP bud.

I was fortunate that the Dead came to Morgantown while I was attending WVU in April 1983. The whole weekend was an experience!
