Unsentimental
Driving around
Sure of myself
Sure of it now
You stand this close to me
Like the future was supposed to be
In the aisles of the grocery
And the blocks uptown
I remember
Remember it well
But if I'd forgotten
Could you tell?
In the shadow of your first attack
I was questioning and looking back
You said, "Baby, we don't speak of that"
Like a real aristocrat
Compound to compound
Lazy and safe
Wanting to leave it
Wanting to wait
When the taxi door was open wide
I pretended I was horrified
By the uniform clothes outside
Of the court yard gate
You're not a victim
But neither am I
Nostalgic for garbage
Desperate for time
I could blame it on your mother's hair
Or the colors that your father wears
But I know that I was never fair
You were always fine
Unsentimental
Driving around
Sure of myself
Sure of it now
You were standing this close to me
Like the future was suppose to be
In the eyes of the grocery
And the blocks uptown
I remember
Remember it well
And if I'd forgotten
Could you tell?
In the shadow of your first attack
I was questioning and looking back
You were standing on another track
Like a real aristocrat
Driving around

My office suggests that both the track and the cover art are flimsy.
Love that 8 bit Nintendo intro!

For sure! SPIN mag calls this one of the albums of year. Pretty pathetic if this is the best that bands could put out this year.
Another swing and a miss for Vampire.

brilliant sound from them on this track
The enigmatic and always interesting critic for the New Yorker, Sasha Frere-Jones, recently did a long write-up on this band for the Contra release. I think his previous articles were about Jay-Z and Pink, go figure. I would post the link but it is not posted on the web. For fans of this band, it is worth checking out.
Quite Likey-able
They seem to be channeling Paul Simon from the Graceland period - especially the song "White Sky". There was a lot of hype around their first album released in '08, but I never bothered giving it a listen probably because of the annoying band name. Someone I trust suggested I give Contra (new album) a listen, and I like!

I don't give a 9 after hearing 30 seconds very often, but that's what I did, and I am sticking to itBites...
You can stream the entire album on NPR this week. I think it is considerably better than their first album, at least based on my first listen so far.

Two points off for the band name alone.

Good to hear new music on RP. Particularly when it's Vampire Weekend!
