See, the clouds are creeping towards the sun
And I'm slipping away unseen by anyone
The light is turning gray; the day is done

Water is so cold and heavy on my mind
I dreamed of walking with you but I fell behind
Looking for a road I could not find

And now the ice is stirring and spring is near
There is no one calling but the sound is clear
And though I'm not yet gone, I'm still not here

I can't tell if it more boring or depressing.
Great sound.  Does wakey ancestry.  I still think he's a kin of David Francie.  Amazing music amazing similarities.
thanks RP

Depends where you live. Both are fine, but 'toward' preferred in the US, 'towards' elsewhere...

Nice Nick Drake vibe. Thanks.
BEAUTIFUL. THANKS BILL

I first heard this at the same time someone I love dearly had just suffered a devastating loss, and it floored me.
I shared it with her at that time.
I think of her whenever I hear it and am no less moved.

If you like this then you might like the Sam Mendes film 'Away we go'.   AM provided the most memorable parts of the soundtrack.
Nick Drake, WoW!
Very Nick Drake sounding.
Not sure what this song is about but he was trying to write a song about dying he sure did a darn good job of it….wow

It's Groundhog Day, all over again.
The last five songs have been awesome, in a very mellow way:
Things Behind The Sun - Nick Drake
Sun Song - Laura Veirs
Call It Dreaming - Iron & Wine
Going Back To Harlan - Emmylou Harris
Towards The Sun - Alexi Murdoch

LOVE the groove that this is making, but it may not be the best thing at this exact moment. I just rolled out of bed to start my work-from-home day on this mid-October morning, I'm still kind of sleepy & warm, I threw on an overshirt & sweats, I have a nice cup of hot tea to my right, this music is so relaxing, and ... I should probably try to get some work done. I just want to curl up & wait for this WHOLE MESS to blow over, but reality & responsibility must take precedence. Sigh.

The dictionaries have given in to the common usage of the word. If it means exactly the same then use the correct version: Toward.
Similar style to Nick Drake ... lovely tone mate 👍

His Time Without Consequence album is one of my favorites and I put it on whenever I want to space out to great music.  But whatever happened to him?
Lovely lilt to this melodic voice. Slow and easy does it fit me every time. Xx

very pretty sound
Is this a hopeful song or a melancholy one? I can't be sure. On some listens, it's an 8.  On others, a 6.
so good
Just heard the TRAJIC news that Neil Peart, Rush's Drummer, has passed away due to brain cancer. A very sad day.
Happy birthday, Alexi!

Guess you're special enkay.  95% of the people posting on this site make typos every single day in their postings. So do you.
This is one good singer-songwriter. 8-9.

disagree. nick drake is a donavon wanna and so on. they are distinct artists who can't help but be influenced by genius. that's why we listen to RP. the medicine wheel of musical evolution.
 fatcatjb wrote:

Took me a couple of years but now I appreciate Nick Drake as a lost genius - I thought this was Nick Drake (and that's a good thing)
The music isn't for everyone - what music is?

Who knows the future - perhaps your tastes will change

RP gives plenty of new artists, enjoy the ride
Actually, pretty heavy lyrics. Total depression.
Doesn't get me. Boring...

My old Grandad would have called this "The tune the donkey died on".  If this guy didn't carry the notes so badly, I'd probably like it.

It's definitely a departure from the Death and Thrash Metal stuff that this guy usually does.
I really like this song, but never( I don't know why) paid attention to the lyrics.
Wow. Got me feeling a bit choked up.
This song makes me want to drown myself.
Better PSD instead
This sounds like a perfect cut that should have been added to Eddie Vedders' Into The Wild soundtrack.

Everything fits, the tone the lyrics the feel.  No shoehorn required.
I just got a paper-cut!
Beautiful song..!

George Burns as God wearing ball cap and saying "Well?"
I can definitely see why some people don't like this song (holding a note for quite a while can be tough, hence intentionally adding a vibrato to mask it), but I like the feel of it.

Listen to Nick Drake, that'll cheer you up, or if not, better to be depressed listening to some decent melodies and guitar work instead of this twaddle

He is clearly influenced by Nick Drake, especially in the ways you mentioned, but there have been folk singers in the British Isles who have sounded similar to this long before Nick Drake was born.
A lot of hate for this guy. I'm surprised. I first heard his work in "Away We Go". An excellent film and one of the best marriages of music to film I've seen. If your on the fence with this, see the film and perhaps it will change your mind.

Pro - Alexi Murdoch here.  His music is evocative of wistful recollections.

I really like 'All My Days.'

It's not Nick Drake but its not nearly as bad as the haters are making out. A solid 7.
It is great to just close your eyes, breath and relax while this song is on...

I know what you mean. {#Cry} But it's a nice song nonetheless. Evocative and wistful. It's on my pod but one of these days I'll zap it. Not a bike riding or workout song.
This song should only be played in funeral homes.

Poor pitch control makes this difficult for me to enjoy, sorry.
hmm, sucks on Thursdays also.

Not sure about the whiner part, but (not that I can do better) his pitch is not very well controlled at all.  Wonder what this would sound like run through one of those autotune devices.

Still awful - posted on a friday afternoon
His singing is absouteley awful, but the whole thing has a sort of endearing quality. Reminds me a bit of Brit folk-rock of the 70's in some generic sense. 7.

another year has gone by and RP still has me hooked with its sweet sad music and it means so much to me in the depths of this coldcold miserable winter...........I am drifting away unseen by anyone

I agree, I like the vibe of the song, but the wavering is unpleasant. He has a great song though, check out "orange sky", less shaky in the pitch.

I was thinking more of Nick Drake. Regardless, I'll take the dull any day over the current obsession with 'autotune'. {#Devil_pimp}

Nice pairing with Darlingside.  It must be a very interesting place with lots of music in Bill's head.

Be back in a bit.  I'm gonna hit the online Metal stations for a few cuts.  I think I've had my fill of folky/laid back/whispery/singer songwriters for now.
This is also from the soundtrack to Away We Go with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph.  If you haven't seen it, it's very funny.

Perfect song for today.  Unseasonably cold here in DC.   Just sitting inside waiting for this horrible cold winter to end.  Depressed.
In these days of worldwide violence and mayhem this to me is a welcome relaxing tune sung with such a gentle approach,  I haven't listened to the lyrics yet as I treat his voice as another instrument which blends beautifully with the acoustic guitar... more like it RP please.
hey, this is quite a nice alternative to Nick Drake (played earlier) - without listening to the lyrics, just the general vibe of the song...
I just love this song so much...it so much expresses how i feel about everything...

Was gonna say this tune and performance are dry and somewhat dull...but after reading your comment...I somehow feel compelled to feel a bit differently now since you've shared such a tragic association with this tune. I feel your pain and know the feeling. Hope you allow time to heal some hard wounds.

Was sure this was Nick, but really couldn't tell, and I was listening carefully... very good music indeed.

Love love love it. Perfectly, sublimely mellow.

Needs to add the auto-tuner.

Should this not have followed ''Fink'' earlier... ?? apologies Bill lol

" One is moved by music that resonates with the frequency of your soul."  (Mine, so no footnotes required :)

Art!
It's a lovely song but quite wistful, almost melancholy. Maybe not a good lonely rainy day I just broke up with the girlfriend interlude. But it's wonderful how one guitar, one voice and evocative lyrics can do so much.
Had to stop painting to go over and give this a 1... Horrible
