I wonder so many songs from Avalon got almost no radio airplay in the US in the 1980s, not even on the album oriented rock stations.

funny, after not hearing roxy music in several years, i was listening to our local NPR station on my drive to work this morning and heard Love Is The Drug - made me very happy. now, i'm about to turn off my computer and leave work for the day, and this will be the last song i hear on RP today. roxy music is so lovely. thank you RP!

This is the height of 80's electronica.  Guitar, bass, drums...they're all still there, but the chorus is keyboard driven.   A time machine.

This album always brings back the same fond memories - blasting across Canada from the Okanagan in British Columbia with my newlywed wife to visit her family in Brantford, Ontario in my (then- our) 1980 Mazda RX7.   We cranked this cassette up loud and sang with gusto (our Italian cousin) only pausing to collect speeding tickets outside Yorkton, Saskatchewan (3 on one roundtrip).

Still LOVE this album - still married to the same beautiful woman - and still haven't paid those tickets .

Love both but can't say I hear RM in the Drugs' work. Except for maybe the long instrumental fadeouts. I'd say the main influences for the War on Drugs are Springsteen (guitarist and band leader Adam Granduciel named his kid Bruce), Dylan, and Tom Petty.

The singer in War on Drugs sounds alot like Bob Dylan IMO.
