All alone in a silent way
World drifts in and the world's a stranger
In a light, eclipsed and alienated
In a time, occupied and invaded
Can't tell what's right, better hit the ground running
In the hills where the tall weed grows
Hands are tied and won't let go
Can't escape this place without leaving the world behind
In a light, ashamed and humiliated
In a time, sacrificed for the sake of trade
The soul is bent, feels the weight of truth
Falling through
Left behind, no choice but to run to the mountains
Where no poppies grow, you have to hit the ground running
In a light, paralyzed and spirits fading
Out of time, must decide to fall or run
Into the eye, of the storm no sign or omen
Make it right, or fall to the other side
Where fields are burning
From the day you're born
You'll always hit the ground running
Right? She's the special sauce.
In my perfect dream life Alison and I sing together. And I can't sing.
Wondering why Alison Krauss' name isn't listed. It is on the album.

I'm a huge Calexico fan
I don't know that I am not, but I do know I am a huge Allison Krauss fan. Sometime around 1986 or so, I was changing the channel on my television and while pausing on a station to see, I heard her voice. I didn't even move for the next half hour, stayed right in front of the tv as I watched and listened. It was one of her first televised concerts and I've been a fan ever since. Is Calexico's version better, perhaps, but then I'm not hearing better, only what I hear.
I disagree.

Going to see them tomorrow night in Upstate NY. Can’t wait Loved his/their music for decades I haven’t seen live, at a great lakeside venue (Finger Lakes Performance Arts Center) Oh Yeah!🥳
I just saw them last night. It was a very good show, but on balance I would have to say I liked their 2008 show a little more.
This is nice but the original is so much better.
I disagree.
This is absolutely, positively my favorite Calexico song and easily one of my top 500 favorite songs of all time. If anyone likes it nearly this much, you should go seek out live versions on the YouTubes. Calexico does a beautiful job of changing and enhancing it when performing live.
Add to that to the fact that Led Zeppelin was (is?) my favorite group from age 16 until... well, 52?
All that adds up to... this version just OK.
Meanwhile, back on the ranch...
They sucked all the life out of the song. So ponderous.
There is another song on this album, "Can't Let Go" which is a Lucinda Williams cover. Same there too, it sounds like some lame folk band from the 60's. And Alison is inaudible. Yes, lame, unfortunately. Hope there are some better ones on this record.

BTW Calexico is on tour, go get tickets, you won't regret it, unless you get Covid.
I seriously don't know how to feel about Robert Plant. Zeppelin was amazing and genre-defining. Plant is certainly allowed to keep making music if he wants to, and it's not for me to tell him what to do with his life.
But on the other hand, I'd like to start missing Robert Plant at some point. He makes that difficult.
It's not as hard as you think... Just start off 'missing' Led Zep and think of this new material as being a new artist.
When I hear these two, I certainly don't hear LZ. Love this stuff to bits
Of course, it's early. The haters always show up eventually.
