That's a good doggo. All of ours have done that to some extent, at least until Threat Level: Squirrel elevates to Threat Level: Stranger Walking By, then it's a full-throated conversation with the door.
We have a horse-size one with a handle. Our horses ignore it but Spock the Dalmatian loves it. he has chewed a few holes in it but it is still serviceable. He likes being able to pick it up by the ball, now that it is squishy. He's learned to block it with his chest, not his mouth after I kick it.
Mine has not learned this. He blocks with his face. I keep expecting him to complain about this but he never does.
Weezie doesn't just tear up toys, she EATS them, so I've had to put/give away many of Middy's menagerie.
Westpaw makes some pretty durable stuff—even the foam toys will last my dogs hours. The hard plastic ones are nearly indestructible, but one of my dogs gnawed thru one of their throw toys.
He got this for Christmas and promptly chewed the handle off:
but they make one without the handle in sizes big enough for horses, so we got him one of these:
This is the only toy he hasn't managed to destroy, and it is by far his favorite thing. He will chase it for hours. It's too big to fit into his mouth.

Best bet so far seems to be sections of horn: she likes them and they're hard enough to last a few days. Once we get past this phase we need to replace several window sills and door frames. c.

I have a hunch there may have been a little tug-of-war game involved (we don't do that because I hate that game when it's the TV remote) but it was also a new experience so could've just been stress...
