Bill Maher is getting the Mark Twain Prize after all
There's been some confusion about whether the comedian and longtime host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher would, indeed, be getting the top humor award. After The Atlantic cited anonymous sources saying he was, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called it "fake news." But today the Kennedy Center made it official.
When Karoline Leavitt referred to it as fake news... it was a lock.

Yeah, It's too bad about Bill Maher. In my opinion, he's getting more and more full of himself. He still doesn't seem to realize that Trump played him to kiss his ring without Bill even knowing it. The kicker was when on the first show back he gave Trump a bit of a reach-around too.
All that dope catches up to you.
He seems honestly oblivious to the notion that folks who hide their dark impulses when appropriate aren't at least partially good people. It's a bit like saying Jeffrey Dahmer was a wonderful soccer coach... just skip the dinner parties.

Yes, but he does occasionally have "real journalists" on his panel. His dialogues are on timely topics, frequently including politics. And his monologue, while coming from a know comedian, aspires to being taken seriously. Frequently he is dead on and should be taken seriously. He is kind of a "hybrid personality" with good ideas frequently. His "comedian" label, though, is deserved and largely neutralizes his attempts at focused discourse being taken seriously, imo. He has always owned his partisanship/opinion on many subjects.

Agreed, "infotainment" or even "opinotainment". BBC is good. I like CNN International also. And thank FSM for NPR!
