Citizens' videos capture Syrian uprising
Comprehensive showcase of citizen video capturing the protests that have rocked Syria since March.

Massive protests calling for freedom and regime change have spread across Syria since first erupting in the southern governorate of Deraa on March 15. The movement has gained momentum in spite a persistent and brutal military crackdown.

Syrian security forces and pro-government armed men have continued their repressive measures despite the abolishment of the 48-year-old emergency law and a pledge by Bashar al-Assad, the president, to implement major reforms.

More than 1,300 civilians have been killed and many more wounded throughout the country. At least 10,000 people, including many women and children, have also been imprisoned - and in many cases tortured - for protesting.

The Syrian government has blamed an "armed resurrection" by Salafi militant groups for the deaths of civilians, but raw video footage reveals a whole different story.

Yesterday evening on NPR there was an interview the official Syrian Office of Information (or whatever) mouthpiece. She was such a pathetic shill for the regime it was embarassing. Responding to charges the army has been attacking women and children in a particular area, she said that was not possible because the army was not there! She went on to say many of the insurgents are wearing army uniforms. Oooookaaaaay.... and the insurgents are driving army tanks and flying army planes and helicopters too, right? Sickening.

May he never return to Yemen again. Yalla, Yemen !

RIYADH — Yemen's beleaguered President Ali Abdullah Saleh, wounded in shelling of his compound in the capital Sanaa, arrived late Saturday in Riyadh for treatment but has not stood down, a Saudi official said.

"President Saleh has arrived in Riyadh for treatment, but he will return to Yemen," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Saleh has refused to give up the power he has held for nearly 33 years despite four months of angry and violent protests against his rule.

He arrived aboard a Saudi medical aircraft while a second plane carried members of his family, the Saudi official said. His son Ahmad, commander of the elite Republican Guard, remained in Yemen.

Saleh was immediately taken to the capital's military hospital, the official said.

Saleh was wounded on Friday when a shell hit the presidential palace's mosque during prayers, killing 11 and wounding 124 people, according to a government official.
