Before pasting the embed code from YouTube, press the first button in the editor with the left/right arrows. This switches you to HTML view, a "code" window. After pasting the embed code there, you can press that button again to switch back to "normal view".
Where were you when I needed you?!? At least Stephen's there for me...
Sorry for the dumb question .. how do you embed a YT video in the forums? Thanks.
...Once you have the embed code, paste it into the "New Post" window (the window where you type your thoughts and hit "submit" to post them). It's a good idea to look at the embed code and look at the video's width and height to make sure they're not too large for an RP page. I try to reduce the width and height if either measurement is over 640. The embed code I've shown below has acceptable dimensions for a desktop computer. The video won't show in this post because I changed the <iframe> tags to <iframedd>
<iframedd xx="560" yy="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ZnuwB35GYMY" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframedd>... If anyone has a better method or can offer more suggestions, help us out!
I used to set the width to 500px because the 560 YouTube size used to seem to wide on the older site; the aspect ratio height for 500px is generally 280px. I've notice that the YT code now has a few more things in there: (i.e.: allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen). I'd been deleting all of that before submitting a video post because I thought it would autoplay the videos, but apparently it doesn't, so it's probably okay to leave all of that stuff in there. "Gyroscope" and some of the others are probably for mobile devices. Chrome has changed its autoplay policies.

Worked like a charm with the new site. Thanks a bunch.

It's not a dumb question at all! Embedding a YouTube using the old Web player can be a bit of a dark art: sometimes it all works seamlessly, sometimes you can't get the video to embed at all. This video
seems helpful, although I think you only need to watch the first 50 seconds or so. It just tells you how to get the embed code for any YouTube video.

Once you're done pasting and maybe adding your own words, hit "submit." Sometimes the video won't show on the posted page and you'll just see the embed code. I think in such cases the RP Forum's server hasn't processed the embed code quickly enough to include it in the posted page; it's possible that your browser is lagging (I think. Any other RPers care to clarify this matter).
If you don't see your video, hit the "edit" button; once you see your post as something you can edit, hit the "preview" button. Your video may show up in the preview page or you just may see a yellow box where the video should appear. I would then hit "submit" even if you only see the yellow box. AGain, this whole process can be a dark art. AFAICT, the process of embedding a YouTube post using the new Web player and its barebones text editor is a lot more straightforward. I've simply pasted the embed code in the barebones text editor and the video showed up right away, before I hit "submit" to post! But the whole embedding process doesn't always work with the new Web player either.
If anyone has a better method or can offer more suggestions, help us out!
