Democrats often tell themselves, and us, that New Yorkâs mayoral race doesnât matter beyond the city. Because Mamdani was born in Uganda, heâs ineligible to seek the presidency. Yet when he joined Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) at a massive rally in Queens last week, they all made the case that their vision ought to guide the party. The best indication that their side is winning the internecine war was the appearance at that rally of New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D).
. And I just heard a prediction that up to 10% of the NYCPD could either quit or retire as a direct result of this election.
It's the origin story (in many respects) for Woke-ism, and these 2 women (so far in my listening) have nailed the stresses experienced on the male side of the equation.
It starts a bit slow, but when the banter between the two guests picks up around 10 mins in.... it's a really good summation (IMO) of how woke spiraled out of control, and why so many on the right rejected it (for good reason).
Kurt... I'd be really interested in your thoughts (I appreciate it's an hour...but...). I'm only 20 mins in, but I'm going to guess that you will agree with the positions taken by the guests.
NOTE: I put the gift link here because I like the video option. I was listening on Spotify, and decided to view it instead.
Hey Kurtsey are you getting these declarations of NY City cops taking early retirement because of Mayor Mamdani from actual New Yawkahs or from red cap wearing pick-up driving jerk-offs in central Rump country? These days many cops live here on Long Island or nearby and it's VERY UNLIKELY any of them would surrender a well paying (relatively) job with excellent benefits because Zohran won. Keep your tin foil cap on because there's a change coming.
they wont give up their pensions and move to NC any faster than they already do.
one thing I would start with is eliminating that silly 20 year rule - allowing cops/firemen to collect pensions after 20 years.
sure let them retire with full benefits after 20 years, but wait until their 60s before they can collect.
It will be an interesting experiment, but not a very well controlled one.
eg, you can't have a socialist island in a nation of capitalism/corporatism, where mobility is an easy answer.
He cannot do much of what he wants without new revenue, and it would seem the NY state Gov/Legislation aren't interested in significantly raising taxes.
I predict he fails, right or wrong.

Mamdani is going to be the best thing that ever happened for the repubs.
You need to get out of the echo chamber. FOX News wants he and AOC to be the face of the Democratic Party...but they just aren't. He's running for mayor of NY. Ask 1,000 people that live more than 50 miles from NYC who the mayor of NY is, and you'll get more Giuliani than Adams. Nobody cares.
