Crisis? what crisis?
It's been a case of living in God's own country here for the two and a half million of us in fortress Western Australia. Business has been booming and the state's financial coffers are overflowing.
Ever so blessed with no community spread of C19. No day to day restrictions except for travel in and out of the state and only one returning  tourist death way back in Feb 2020.
But things started to sour two weeks ago when an un-vaccinated backpacker slipped in across the border and now we have registered our first few cases of covid.
Been a bit of a shock to the locals, mask wearing is mandatory in public places as is QR registering in all instances.
So looks like our luck's up and dream run is over ,welcome to the real world.

Stupid un-vaccinated backpacker.

Our power lines are all underground here in the neighborhood. It does us no good whatsoever when some yahoo takes out a power pole just a few miles south of here, where the Quimper Peninsula is narrow. And it's unlikely all that wild land will be dug up for underground utilities in any case.

Imagine what the folks went through in Sandy. And I hate to say it, but count yourself lucky. Your house is standing. Nobody died.

I'd like to see electric providers moving forward by becoming leasers of solar roof systems and starting the process of de-centralizing electricity. No more outages.

To add to the COVID insanity, we had to endure a two-week power outage thanks to an early ice storm (the leaves were still on the trees) and overhead power distribution.

In a major metropolitan area, in the 21st century, in "the greatest country on earth", we still have obsolete overhead power distribution. This is fucking pathetic.

LOL!   On the storm-whipped Pacific coast, there were frequent power outages that would last a few hours up to a few days at the most.  Here in the interior of BC, there are frequent power outages but the storms are nowhere near as frequent or as powerful .  Yet there blackouts on an all too frequent basis.

What is this place?  Some poor, developing country?   Or are my expectations out of whack?   Not interested in getting a large, smelly, noisy backup generator.

Most of the transmission lines in BC are overhead while more densely populated neigbhourhood distribution lines are buried.  BC is crisscrossed with Hydro lines.  The only province that comes close for hydro transmission lines is Quebec.

Been building a rock retaining wall down in the secret garden last few weeks from rocks harvested from the bottom of our property.
Laid about twenty ton's worth and that, and with the colder weather my back is starting to tell me we need a break.

Sounds great! Well, except for the moving rocks bit. Have a great trip. I think I'll go into town for takeaway coffee from my barista buddies who have a walk up window. Life on the edge!

Fully expect another round of lockdown in the next week or two.
