Thanks for the additional information on this song, romeotuma. I was rather dazzled by that violin playing, for starters. Their passion (which simply exhausted me!) and their almost impish interplay - I was prepared to be irritated, but by the end, I was in awe. And knowing that "Blackbird" was improvisational just put the icing on the cake for me.

Thank you, Cynaera... this is one sweet cover...

Thanks, Romeo. Beside the wonderfully varied and vital music on RP, the reason I tune in is to learn something about the music I love and am being introduced to. Comments like yours make this a very fulfilling experience, day in and day out. It's grease for the grind.

Thank you! Hope all is well with you... love this song...

I wish them both blessings in their golden years...  Ringo, too...

I can't believe we have been as long as we have without John Lennon...  and George Harrison is gone too...  miss them...

Wow, I did not know that...

The Beatles recorded 26 takes of "You Never Give Me Your Money" on 6 May 1969...

Paul McCartney played drums on "Dear Prudence", because Ringo had gotten mad and quit the band briefly while they were recording this song...

"Dear Prudence" is about actress Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, whom The Beatles hung out with in India to study the teachings of the pimp Maharishi Mahesh Yogi...

The aim of the Voice of Peace, rumoured to have been established with the financial aid of ex-Beatle John Lennon, was to communicate a message of peaceful co-existence to the volatile Middle East. The station's output was a popular music format presented by a team of professional, mostly British, DJs broadcasting live from the ship.

This was my post this morning in the forum for the song by the Beatles called "Within You Without You"...

"We were talking about the space between us all
And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion..."

With this song, the Beatles define the literal meaning of the thematic structure of the album Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band... the entire album is about the barriers people put between each other, and the illusions people hide behind...

the cover of the album, which shows the Beatles as real people alongside the Sergeant Pepper's band in full consume, symbolizes the masks people hide behind—  the real image of the Beatles versus the image of them in costume playing a part...

this is the best album of all time, not only because the music is soooo good, but because it is so profound...

Pink Floyd touches on the same theme, with The Wall representing the barriers that people wrap around themselves...

both albums are like Shakespeare in their high art...

First Beatles scholar graduates in Liverpool

LONDON (AP) — A former Miss Canada finalist has become the first graduate of a Liverpool university's groundbreaking degree program based on analyzing the Beatles' music and their impact on Western culture.

Liverpool Hope University officials believe the master's program offers the first advanced degree based on the life and times of the Fab Four.

Mary-Lu Zahalan-Kennedy joined the program when it started in 2009 and graduated today. She is one of 12 full-time students of the program — "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society."

Zahalan-Kennedy, a singer and actress, said the course provided insight into the wide-ranging influence of the Beatles.

The course also deals with how the port city of Liverpool helped shape the group's identity.

Yeah, it's funny.  In 1974 the average hourly wage in the US was apparently around $4.50, so $7.50 was a lot of money to spend on a concert ticket back then.  These days, one couldn't go to most shows for ten times their hourly wage.
