This would never have worked with the fellow to the left or really any dog his size.  The first rule we  have always established with all dogs around here is: If it's on the floor it's yours, if it's on the table it's mine.   Rule two: Any horizontal surface more than six inches off the ground is a table.

did you take him to a vet and checked for a chip?

 
No, I am pretty sure he came from down the street, I heard him yelping and howling last week and then he just shows up. We put a huge sign out that we found the puppy and have walked him up and down the street in the area I heard him crying to no avail. I don't think they want him. He hasn't cried at all since he has been here so maybe it is just as well.
