That's wise, most mother birds abandon their babys if they have aquired a human smell from being handled.  There's also the problem of transmitting human germs to the wild animals.

Even at the MN State Fair this year they requested all visitors to the barns to wash their hand BEFORE entering.

Or the train station. I forget if it's this one or President's Day, but I always used to get stuck at the train station (when I was commuting that way) because they were running on a holiday schedule, and I'd have to wait 45 minuts for the next train..
