In 2003, my cohort Anton and I were recording the next Brian Jonestown Massacre record at my studio. The record was to be eventually called "...And This Is Our Music", and Anton asked me one afternoon, "Rob, do you know any good whistlers?". My dad was always whistling beautiful tunes in the house throughout my childhood, so I said to him, "You know, my pop is a pretty darn good whistler." 
Anton asks- "Do you think he would whistle on this song we are working on?" 
So I call my pop and ask him- "Hey dad, are you still a good whistler?" 
He says "Are you kidding?? Of course I am!"
"Well, do you wanna come over and whistle on this song in my studio that Anton and I are working on?" 
He says- "Well, I have to eat lunch and watch Bonanza first, then I'll come over." 
A couple of hours later my dad shows up and Anton is too shy/scared to deal with him, so he leaves it up to me to record and produce him, while Anton basically stays scarce and kind of peaks in the control room every once in a while. 
I set up my Neumann U87 in the control room and give my dad some headphones and I sing to him the melody (I can't whistle for shit). He of course is not familiar with the tune so he needs me to conduct him on the note changes and the rhythm. 
I have this very clear, wonderful memory of my father sitting in a chair with headphones on, his hands clasped between his legs listening intently, and watching my wavering right hand closely, and hearing the most beautiful sound come out of his pursed lips. His tone and pitch were so pure and true. 
I remember looking over seeing Anton and Sarah Beth Tucek hiding behind the door, just barely poking their heads in so they can just hear and see my dad do his thing.

It only took about a half hour, and he had nailed it. Many people have thought this was a theremin on this track, but no it is actually my 78 year old father, whistling like a cosmic song bird. I don't think I ever told him the title that ended up being the name of the song. But I was so proud of him. And now this little tune is another immortalization of his spirit.

He also stands as the oldest member ever of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, which is weird.
