1982 Japanese pressing w / the all important OBI.  Also just arrived today.  My second attempt to replace my old US 1st from HS daze.

So far so good.  Very bassy, hmmm.  Better, raised the VTA .3 mm  I ♥ my SL 1200.

I've gone back and lowered the VTA by .5 mm to tame the bass which is counterintuitive.  It worked.  Now it sounds much more like it is supposed to.

1979 US 1st Pitman pressing.  Just arrived today.  Sublime.  Have the CD.  Dancing Barefoot ... {#Jump}

She was huge and well loved in Cleveland from day one.  Arguably another artist that WMMS put on the national map.

2014 EU Page remaster.  Unscheduled, someone just bought it and a rerip just to be sure.  So far I have this and the so called IV EU albums and they are very, very well done.  Good enough to forget about the original pressings of which I've compared them to.  They are different but both the originals and the Page remasters are equally great in their own right.  The concert included is kinda ho - hum, It's just an average sounding soundboard recording typical of the day. Just another thing for the completest, so of little importance to me.

I imagine surfing Lake Erie has its challenges. Drop your cigarette and you'll end up one fiery Chrystal Ship

Do be looking for that clicky thing or something like it in the next few days. {#Whisper}

One of my surfboards I had was a Bahne.  The model was named The Crystal Ship.

I am actually tidying up that song right now.  The inspiration for the Crystal Ship was the offshore drilling platforms in SoCal that were always brightly lit up with the work lights on the rigs at night.  Something see as you sat on the beach or drove down PCH back in the day.

I traded that one in for another Bahne.  The Mike Hynson.  The famous shaper and one of the two surfers in The Endless Summer.  The other surfer in the movie was Robert August.

My most prized board was personally shaped for me by Dale Velzy when I worked at The El Paipo knee board factory in Newport Beach as a kid.  I asked him to shape me a mini gun that would work in our local SoCal waves.  I glassed it myself.  Sadly, I had to sell it when I moved Back East where it was absolutely not working in the slower mushy waves on the East Coast.

Um, stay tuned.  I plan to do all 5 in a row.  And dig up an old copy of The Soft Parade and see if I want to upgrade that.

Maybe not the rest today, but all of em.  You never know when that clicky thing or something like it might pop up.  But when it does ...

I know what this stuff is supposed to sound like after almost 53 years of listening to it and these copies sound better than anything Doors I have ever heard, ever.

I got to see them in Philly in 1969, 2nd show of the night, senior year of HS.  It was at the old Arena where the Roller Derby team played.  First tour after the Miami incident.  Philly cops were all over the place with cameras waiting to catch Morrison in the act of anything.  Held up the show for about half an hour trying to get them off the floor.  Rizzo was still the police chief, he wasn't mayor yet.  Anyway he never did anything, but he did indeed get off the stage and roam around on the floor singing and kissing some lucky girls on a couple of songs.  It was lots of fun, he was in good form, not too ripped to be in public.  One thing I do remember about The Doors specifically was that they were an ad lib band, Manzarek kept real close track of Morrison looking for clues as to what might come next.  He sat there at the key boards and the expressions on his face did not always match the music.  You could see him shift and grimace.  There was a set list, but they never knew what he would actually do.  They did not drop anything that night.

Somewhere on a hard drive in another galaxy far away from the dial up real Napster days, I have a copy of a radio concert broadcast of a show from Cobo Hall in Detroit from the same tour of VG sound.  I'll bet a buck that our jagdriver was at that show.  I also have a copy of one of the last shows they ever did in Dallas with a live version of LA Woman.  Only one I've ever heard of that song.  He was gone shortly after that.

Note the ticket prices.

Shifting gears
.

2012 2 X 12" 45 RPM 200 gram vinyl.  Have all of them except for Soft Parade.

Just cracked the seal on this even though its been sitting for a year in the pile of things to get to.  Time for some comfort food.

I so well remember the summer in SoCal when this came out.  They were our house band.  This is their trippiest album, imho.

1973 1st   POC Pride Of Cleveland  Joe Walsh is all over this album.

The song Rosewood Bitters came from this album.  Everyone thinks it is about drinking.  The Rosewood actually refers to the fretboard.
