Sarah Palin's mother – Because she could see Gilligan's Island from her porch, so why bother going there?

No wonder she had a widespread reputation.

BTW, link is a bit fruity - NSFW better still, google it; although you'll find the shops on the high street and in malls all over the UK. Apparently.

Liberace - realizing that the castaways probably could not craft a piano and candelabra out of coconuts and bamboo for him.  He was sure he could fashion some fabulous capes from the seemingly-endless supply of sailcloth, however.

So everybody knows what a hip place Gilligan's Island used to be; it was the Studio 54 of the '60s, and almost everyone who was anyone eventually made their way to the shore of this "uncharted desert isle".

Yet despite being visited by a wide variety of celebrities and VIPs, including a famous aviator, an exiled dictator (paging Hosni Mubarak!), a king, a soviet spy, soviet cosmonauts, a surfer, a rock band, and a movie producer, there are some people who never made it to the island (despite the widespread reputation of Mary Ann Summers' coconut creme pie).  What was their problem?  Were they snobs?  Were they making a political statement?  Were they really bad navigators?
I'm sure you can help me piece together the list of those who snubbed the seven stranded castaways, along with a likely explanation of their reticence:

Malcolm X (wanted to make a pilgrimage there, but ended up in Mecca instead)

Pope Paul VI (not sure about efficacy of natural birth control south of the equator)

Dwight D. Eisenhower (couldn't face prospect of sleeping in a hammock night after night)
