I still don't know what started this standstill in the first place. For some reason I'm thinking a Strike maybe? The system usually runs pretty smoothly.
and those owner/operators are getting screwed, apparently, but we can solve that problem later.

Is anyone else dealing with the USPS right now, specifically waiting for a package?
Yep all the time. And tracking everything I send and receive. There have been many delays in the past month and the slowdown began right after Thanksgiving. This is the routing for a 3 day Priority Package initiated in your neck of the woods. I had to file an inquiry as to where it was. Once I did so It was found and rescanned into the system within about three hours. That was the Dec 6 scan. Didn't move but it was found. It took 11 days to get from Cleveland to Akron which is about 30 miles. My packages never go through Cleveland but this one did. Normally everything goes through Pittsburgh to Akron and vice versa. . I live and breathe shipping. The delays have caused me to shut down my record store on Discogs until the first of the year. Here is a resource I keep open on a tab. A heat map of bottlenecks. https://downdetector.com/status/usps/map/ Two weeks ago, everything east of Chicago was bright red.
Your thoughts about how politics have affected the USPS are largely incorrect. Here is a comment from a fellow collector who is a USPS employee who works in the Los Angeles area in a thread I started a couple of weeks ago. https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/836091 . quote=lunarr]Those plans had been in effect for several years. They started way back when the "consolidation" process of sorting centers, truck runs, overtime hours, and excess equipment removal began. If you worked at USPS as I do you would know that. A simple search on the internet would reveal that. But don't let the facts get in the way of your political opinions. And no I didn't vote for him, not that it's any of your business. Tired of people thinking the USPS is a political football. It isn't. It can jack things up all by itself without any help from idiot politicans. PS: PMG DeJoy wasn't around long enough to anything that wasn't already being done. Funny how all the panic and hysteria about the DEATH OF THE USPS is all gone now—not a peep about it in the media....gee..I wonder..was it all politics??? Hmmmmmm...
even islander is basically correct with his assessment of the current shipping problems. Be glad that you live in the USA. International shipping is in gridlock. The things that islander does not mention that contribute even more is that the vessels used for international shipping, that is air and ocean are greatly reduced due to the overall lack of commerce, period. Mail hops onto commercial aircraft headed to certain destinations. But the amount of flights has also been reduced resulting in lower available capacity and the mail backs up simply waiting for space. Dedicated cargo aircraft such as owned by UPS, FedEx and DHL are maxed out. There is only so much capacity. There is even a shortage of new delivery vans and trucks here in the USA due to the manufacturers of these vehicles dealing with CV shutdowns and parts shortages upstream.
As much as you want to blame Trump, you are uninformed and totally off base. . And even Bezos / Amazon uses the USPS for that final mile and not just in rural locations. Here's a shipment that came from the local distribution center 5 minutes from my house that was still sent to the USPS and delivered on a Sunday to boot ! It originated in two separate Amazon facilities and was put together in Twinsburg, Ohio (5 minutes away) and handed off to the USPS for that "final mile" . Patience, not blaming Trump for all of your problems is the only meaningful answer to your problems with shipping. And yes you should'a made that 10 minute drive across the river if you really needed that stuff so bad.
I'm waiting for a shipment with all my meds in it. it's been 2 weeks. USPS says they're waiting for it to arrive to their facility. I'll call on Monday and get it re-shipped.
Jrzy...my limited research has revealed the Philly / South Jersey sorting and routing centers are basically closed. They were understaffed going into the holidays (thanks to Dejoy), and are now dealing with large COVID outbreaks. Trailers are sitting in the lots for days with no activity. I'm told most of the Philly packages went to Florida for sorting.
As much as I hate to say it...Amazon will soon deliver your meds in a day or two. Bezos is going to own pharma very soon, now that they are focusing on filling prescriptions. CVS and Rite-aid are living on borrowed time and the middle-men who wholesale pharma will go away as well. I don't know what a monopoly looks like...but Amazon is going to own entire sectors of the US retail chain.

My problem was with Fed Ex. Two weeks ago, I ordered a steering gear box from Rock Auto for my son's '41 Dodge Power Wagon. It was ordered on a Friday from their warehouse in Phoenix, Arizona. I got a shipping confirmation the next day. Two days later it arrived in San Bernadino, California. By the way, it went by my house (well... five miles away from it) on the on the I-10 going to San Bernadino. It sat in San Berdo for another three days. Then it was shipped all the way to Bloomington, California... 3 miles away from San B. There it sat for another 2 days before it got to my house. This took 8 days time. I could have walked back and forth to Phoenix in the time it took to get to my house. Well, maybe ran.

HOKY smokes..... I have had issues every month with my chemo shipments, but that was because of CVS Caremark, not UPS.... I sure hope they get your package to you ASAP!
Speaking of USPS, though, we sent out three packages on 12/5. Two were headed to my homeland of the stinking onions, and one to Vermont. Two of them arrived as predicted on the tracking receipt... and one of them disappeared, never to be seen again.
I have a case open with USPS customer service, and they can't find the package for my brother that was last scanned at the hub in Dallas on 12/6.
On the other side of that coin, my brother tried to send something to me on 12/16, and tracking shows that it's still sitting in the post office where he dropped it off.

Last week (12/16) I ordered something online, and the tracking details came through within an hour. That was last Wednesday. When nothing was happening, I signed up for tracking alerts via text...the first came on Monday: Arrived USPS Facility 12/21/2020 9:34pm PENSACOLA FL PROCESSING CENTER
Then another update Tuesday: In Transit to Next Facility 12/22/2020
Wednesday's message was: Arrived USPS Facility 12/23/2020 7:08am LAKE MARY FL DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Today (at 4:51am...workin' hard): Arrived USPS Facility 12/23/2020 9:53pm SEMINOLE-ORLANDO FL DISTRIBUTION CENTER
So my package is making its way across Florida. The problem is that I live 985 miles north of Orlando.
Shit happens...it's a busy time...you should have ordered earlier....I get it, but the problem I have is that the purchase was made in PHILADELPHIA. PENNSYLVANIA! The item shipped from a location 14.9 miles from my house! I literally could have pushed my car to and from the store more quickly. Lesson learned....free shipping with the USPS isn't free, and the $10 I saved by not crossing the bridge and parking is looking like a small price to pay for the crap I'm going to get for this.
Louis DeJoy has intentionally destroyed USPS capacity in the hopes of enabling his leader to steal the election by minimizing the impact of mail-in ballots. He failed, but the collateral damage is a postal service that is operating at dangerously inept levels for those who depend on it for medicines, financial support, and connectivity to others. They are going to use COVID as an excuse, but COVID was the reason they acted with the increase to mail-in voting.
If you ever wonder why we are the laughing stock of the world right now...we can't even deliver mail. We had a wanna-be dictator destroy infrastructure in the hopes of rigging an election, and then over 70 Million voted for him. We are a disgrace.
While I agree with most of your premise on DeJoy and the USPS issues, all shipping and logistics has been whack this year. All carriers have been at basically christmas volumes all year long. The infrastructure was never meant to work like this and the crews are all burned out. The extra christmas load has pretty much buckled a lot of the weakest points. This is worldwide as well - I've got backorders of big expensive equipment coming from Netherlands and I get quotes of between 4 and 19 weeks. They are air freighting some pieces to keep up with demand, but can't tell you if your order will get allocated from those lots. Once it's landed, you get a week or so of customs and then another 2+ weeks to get it across the country. Then you get 3-4 days in a depot while they try to find a truck to bring it out. The whole system is just overloaded right now.

Back, shortly after the energy crisis, I met a friend-of-a-friend who crewed on a sailing ship that was trying to make a go of commercial cargo shipping. In a truly epic tale, spun out to at least an hour over a bottle of Puerto Rican rum, he recounted that chunk of his life story. Started with him moving to New Orleans and getting work servicing offshore oil rigs. Met locals (in words to live by he said, "I've never had a problem with buying friends."). Took a Russian sailor to a party where the Russian met an American girl and got laid - something that never happened when they were in the US. Basically, started living the life of a sailor.
Fast forward to working on the sailing ship's first commercial voyage where they got caught in a storm off New Zealand. All hands on deck was called, and before they could send out a distress call and launch the lifeboats, capsized. He popped up next to a self-inflating raft and hauled everyone else in except for one woman lost at sea. Something like a week or two later, they were miraculously spotted and picked up by a Russian freighter. When I met him he was wearing thongs (flip-flops) he had been given in New Zealand because he had no shoes and a jean jacket with very rusty buttons. Lest you think this was all bullshit, I saw the newspaper article reporting the shipwreck and rescue.
The punchline is that when they were hauled aboard the freighter, the Russian sailors all knew who he was because he got one of their mates on a different ship laid.
