I usually pick a rule and stick to it for the entire game. I never read on the website
if there's a preferred set of rules.

Me too - sometimes it's good to do the stand still and look around thing, and sometimes it's fun to go poking around for clues - especially in the more rural areas. I had one where the only possible clue was a truck with the words "Department Of Transportation" on it, but the name of the municipality was sadly obscured. I was wrong by two continents and a hemisphere.

Yeah, apparently parts of Australia look a lot like western Oklahoma.

If that's what you did then cool, we'll adhere to that.

This one I just got though, It's hard and I'm going to crack it. I'll let you know from the get-go that I'm using all the tools I can think of (down to trying to figure out what brand of bicycle it is)

I just got one with no scrolling at all. It's a street view, if you look down you can see a bicycle wheel, but it's just one point, by a shore somewhere. But in the bottom corner where it says ©Google, this one's in Greek, so...

Greece has some financial issues. They can no longer afford 360 degrees.  Also, the two dimensions you see are the same two they are living in as well.
