 KarmaKarma signals virtue:
Critical thinker vs an ideologue:

If a critical thinker disagrees with you, he or she thinks you are wrong. If an ideologue disagrees with you, he or she thinks you are evil.

Pick your lane.

Save your breath.  That's what most here want to happen. They do not want a republic, they want socialism where the state is the head of religion and the bureaucrats their priests. The government to run every aspect of their lives. Open borders.  No more cops and guns. Do whatever their news feed tells them to do.  Trust the government, explicitly as long as Trump isn't running it.  They forget that most of the people who are incompetent and mismanaging things are the career bureaucrats who will still be there once Trump is gone.   fait accompli ...

Few here care, let alone believe in the Coup, even with all of the recent evidence pouring out to prove it.  Now we have Brennan and the smoking gun.  Still, no one cares.  It's cool because the ends justify the means that most here want which is Trump in chains (band name).  They're looking the other way to all of this under the cover of hating Trump.  The hate is so strong, that I believe it is blinding them from seeing exactly what they are allowing to happen, not caring about the long term effects on their own freedom going forward.

Yeah, maybe a bit broad brushed, but I'm just making a point.  You all will do anything and give up everything just to get rid of Trump.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie uses the beach with his family and friends at the governor's summer house at Island Beach State Park in New Jersey on July 2. Christie is defending his use of the beach, closed to the public during New Jersey's government shutdown, saying he had previously announced his vacation plans and the media had simply "caught a politician keeping his word."

That was my initial thought.  Glad you said it.

In passing, is anybody aware of the current level of federal subsidies to the agricultural sector?    Is it still well over $100 B?

I'm not sure whether you're using the same yardstick as this NPR piece to measure federal agricultural subsidies but it doesn't look like those subsidies have reached $20 billion for most of the last ten years. In 2019 they reached $22 billion.

A small comfort: "Think of all the money being spent!" is really about the people who do graphic design, scriptwriting, printing, distribution, etc. The infrastructure to the campaign is where the money goes (unless you're Trump and sucking off the funds for personal gain). So, if you're actually spending money on a campaign, you're employing a crap ton of people who are mostly thinkers, artists, writers. There's a bit of good in that.

My sister works as a Hollywood accountant and once I mentioned something about how much movies cost to be made and she responded that the money pays carpenters, electricians, etc. I think the same is true at Disneyland: costs a buttload to go there, but I always walk around looking at the gardening, construction, maintenance, etc. There's some employed people there, and I hope they're being paid properly.

That actually is a good point and some comfort.  Actually there is one purpose behind all of this and that is to piss off any apathetic voters that previously would not have voted to the point to where they will be motivated to go out and vote for their natural proclivity.  Anger and fear are the order of the day and anyone with any sense knows anger and fear are dead end paths to misery. {#Stop}

The debates are fun in that you get to watch Democratic nominees disavow all the leftwing ideas of their base.

Two takeaways for me.

Yes, Biden / Harris will pack the SCOTUS.

Biden / Harris will not accept the vaccines developed under Trump and start the process all over again and lockdown the country and impose a mask mandate until another round of vaccines has been developed and proven to their satisfaction, regardless of how long it takes or what it does to this country negatively.  They will never allow any vaccine that could be attributed to Trump's guidance to be put into distribution.  It will have to be a 100% democratic effort.

She said she would take the vaccine if Dr. Fauci said it was ready. I have heard quite a few  people  (in person) say the exact same thing.

Trump has spent 4 years fighting science.  He won't acknowledge global warming.  Pence last night wouldn't accept it.  He has done everything possible to contradict guidance from science on the pandemic (which is why we're failing so badly at managing it).  He has loosened the process on FDA approvals and has promoted dangerous medications.  Hell, the NEJM for the first time is backing a Presidential candidate in the interest of public health.  He is going to announce a vaccine before November 3....it's just a given.  On November 5th he'll backpedal....but he's going to troll for votes.

Trump has no involvement in the pharmaceutical aspects of a vaccine.  If the medical community delivers a vaccine that is safe and reliable, most American's will take it.  The issue shouldn't be political, and 100% of the blame belongs to the President.
