I'm getting real tired of all the talk about how all Trump supporters are stupid and selfish and won't wear masks and gloves and be generally compliant to public health safe practices. I wear masks going out, have no problems with gloves. I will not go to a sit down restaurant just to be cool, I am not hoarding toilet paper. I'm not marching with guns and waving a flag protesting the lockdown. I'm just trying to cope and get by safely like most everyone else.
I am going to start broad brushing all you Trump haters / democrats in reverse fashion until we get some sort of distinction between some and all Trump supporters and you all start calling it out when you see it amongst yourselves. It is up to you all to change your tone or get back what you give. You've been warned.
See, that is how arguments start due to simple misunderstandings. I always thought the proposition was this: "All Trump supporters support a stupid and selfish president who won't wear masks and gloves and be generally compliant to public health safe practices." Syntax is everything.

I think we'll find that individuals will determine that, not governments. Material numbers of individuals are not going to fly to Vegas if the casinos open in June. Most people will not sit in small restaurants next week. There will always be some...but things aren't returning to any sense of normalcy for a long, long time.
Solid, consistent, informed data would help everyone make their own decisions and balance their risk/rewards. Only 1/3rd of Americans trust Trump (even though 44% approve of him?), so it comes down to Governors and local officials you can believe in.
What we also need is some respect for each other. Wearing a mask isn't about personal choice, it's about being part of a community. Oh, the irony... waving the flag while not wearing a mask.

Obviously there are many variables, but it could have much to do with smaller numbers of visitors from other countries - countries where the disease has been established. I don't think there are many "continental" tourists visiting Caribbean or South Pacific islands these days. There was a lot of concern about the poorest nations - especially in Africa - having catastrophic outbreaks, but that isn't being reported - yet. Of course the counts depend on the availability of testing, so who knows? Still, perhaps fewer "outsiders" visit those places, especially in the last two or three months. Ebola was different; research showed it originated on the African continent.
Well, if there is one constant in the figures from Europe, it is that those countries run by populist governments have fared worst. But this makes sense. If you erode the general competence level of the state apparatus you don't have the tools left to do the things you should be doing. But this is not the only factor in this pandemic and I wouldn't want to reduce its complexity to just that one failing.
That might be a local thing peculiar to the US. In Europe there has been a lot of discussion and comparison between countries that display vastly different results. That said, I don't think any particular country has got a good handle on managing the epidemic. Some have been luckier than others. Some have been more cautious. Others more reckless. The results don't necessarily correlate with how smart government handling has been.
The results may not directly correlate to decision making, but every other government in the world is iterating, tracking, observing....and oh yeah...testing.
There is no doubt that the US is a different sort of animal because of its size and complexity, but there is no coordination and a strong desire to ignore facts in favor of perceived political positioning. When Europe and Asia ban Americans from visiting because we're so far behind on managing the virus, it will finally hit home how far behind we are. The flare-ups in countries that are re-opening are addressed immediately. A bar in Seoul creates a hotspot...all bars in the country are closed. In the US, we have a hotspot in a meat facility, we use our rarely enacted war powers to try and force continued production in unsafe environments.
To learn from others, you have to engage and consider...2 things Trump's government detests.
it's a challenge for me to think of anything political bias doesn't ruin/distort
trying to watch any opinion on major networks is not helpful (for me anyway)
that said, there's definitely some organization here
i see it
and testing is appears to be easily available
large drive through set up close by
if i read my text correctly even the local drug store chains offer it
and maybe slowing the spread means different things to different people
with sero testing it looks like we're surprised by the degree of early spread
i'm almost certain we will see antibodies very soon
which is a likely bridge to vaccination or mass immunity

Don't think so...When other countries stepped up and said here is three months stipend...Sit your butt at home while we sort this out...Here, the greatest nation in the world, we got 17 dollars a day allotted to us and people are starving. Bob Dylan was right...Everything is broken.
