President Joe Biden’s administration shut down a clandestine State Department operation
intended to prove the lab-based origins of Covid-19 over concerns about the work’s poor quality and its politicized, premature and selective use by Trump and his allies to blame the pandemic on China, according to CNN.

KEY FACTS

The undisclosed project, run out of the arms control unit and led by then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, was established in late 2020 to investigate the possibility a Chinese bioweapons lab played a role in the pandemic’s origin, CNN reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.

It was swiftly shuttered by Biden’s team after they were briefed in February and March, CNN reports, citing concerns over the quality of the work and being a poor use of resources.

One former State Department official familiar with the project told CNN the way the team conducted its work was secretive and “suspicious as hell,” cutting out the Department’s technical experts and the intelligence community, prematurely briefing senior officials before work had concluded and, according to another source, excising experts critical of their science.

Those involved with the project defended the work, according to CNN, pointing to a close collaboration with the intelligence community and the deliberate use of “dissenting perspectives.”

Ned Price, a State Department spokesperson, disputed CNN’s reporting in an email to Forbes, acknowledging the project but denying its cancellation.

So he replaced a shoddy investigation that was trying to prove the predetermined outcome they wanted rather than actually, you know, investigating. Still can't get to your accusations that the Democrats have an official conclusion when they actually were investigating the situation.

With the Plame affair going they could investigate leaks of classified information instead. (Alas, poor Scooter.  Took one for the team.)

A related method is scapegoating. Spreading the lie that the unvaccinated are responsible for the ongoing pandemic gives us a scapegoat to hate rather than our politicians, even though they can only serve in this hallowed role temporarily, once it becomes obvious that vaccinated people get covid-19 and pass it along just like anybody else. Even NPR is starting to cover the "breakthrough" problem.

With all due respect, and that I do not know how old you are, I personally know that the government has been lying to me since I was 10 years old (some 60 years ago) when it officially told me that marihuana (not a typo, google it) makes you want to "rape and kill".  I found that it was a big lie when I was 13 and had my first toke.  The next big lie was told by McNamara regarding the progress and the daily body counts of the NVA and VC during the war in Viet Nam.  And the list goes on from there.

Your observation that the government lies only goes back to Bush / Cheney is somewhat revealing.  Better late than never.  I basically have not trusted our government based upon those two lies mentioned above, most of my life, or probably longer than you have been alive.  The lies continue to this moment with the shifting sands of the "truth" about CV 19.

OBTW, thanks for the reassurances that my statement is not racist.  It doesn't matter much in the big picture here because the vast majority of those here believe otherwise.  Just ask their leader, islander.  He'll happily confirm it ...

Yes, even the man peddling “Don’t Fauci My Florida” T-shirts seems to have noticed that over the past two weeks, 20 percent of all the nation’s new covid-19 cases were in his state. (...)

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that as of July 23, the 20 states with the highest vaccination rates (counting the District of Columbia as a state) all voted for President Biden.

A Kaiser Family Foundation analysis of CDC data found that as of July 6, the average vaccination rate in counties that voted for Biden was 46.7 percent. In counties that voted for Donald Trump, the vaccination rate was 35 percent.

This, sadly, should be no surprise. An Associated Press-NORC poll released Friday found that among Democrats, only 18 percent were “not very” or “not at all” confident in the effectiveness of vaccines; among Republicans, 42 percent expressed such doubts.

Three states — Florida, Texas and Missouri — accounted for 40 percent of new covid cases last week.

It’s the new political geography of sickness and death.

From an anonymous doctor who writes for NakedCapitalism, and also posts comments updating the situation in his hospital, like this one. There is more discussion about this comment at https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2021/07/links-7-24-2021.html#comment-3578254

TL;DR: It's not just the unvaccinated who are spreading covid-19 around, and not only the delta variant.

IM Doc July 24, 2021 at 8:18 am

About the French Guyana paper from the CDC

This is how science – the actual process – not the Fauci version – should be working.

I have repeatedly stated that I am seeing much much more vaccinated positives than one would ever have expected. As I have stated, they seem to be much sicker (though not critically so) and they tend to happen in clusters. For the past two months, this has stuck out from the dominant media narrative. I have never had to fight the cognitive dissonance between the media and my own eyeballs in my life.

I belong to a large non-public alumni group of my residency program that has literally thousands of IM docs all over America. The first thing a scientist does is to confirm that your observations are general or something you are just seeing. It was quickly obvious from that group that I was far from alone despite the “minimal breakthrough cases” media narrative.

So, then you do everything you can to hypothesize reasons why you are seeing what you are. I have been a physician for 30 years and that experience plays a huge role as well. Having this gigantic number of breakthrough cases just simply does not happen. I continue to see more than half the cases in vaccinated patients and so do many others. UNHEARD OF IN VACCINES BEFORE NOW.

Part of hypothesizing why is looking to the literature for evidence. Seldom is this found in RCT at this stage. Case reports and series like this paper are critical. They are seeing the same breakthrough ratio. And they have done a lot more viral research than you can. This is a gold mine for my own questions.

Is there anything in the paper that could possibly explain what I am seeing. Lots of times, it is not in the headline part but in all the test results and discussion. And yes, there is a very important finding deep in the results.

Why would clustering and sicker patients be so much more common in the breakthrough patients – there must be a reason for that?

If you look at the brief discussion of cT or cycle threshold you will see that the vaccinated patients have a SIGNIFICANTLY lower cT than the unvaccinated. That is the way the PCR test works. It basically means the vaccinated have a much higher amount of viral active particles than the unvaccinated. That would account for the breakthroughs I and my colleagues are seeing being a bit more ill. And it would explain the clustering. THe vaccinated breakthroughs have much higher viral load so they are much more contagious and the higher viral load makes them more symptomatic.

So we now have a suggestion and strong evidence that the vaccinated population may be spreading much more virus than the unvaccinated. I would say that is a critical public health issue and must be further researched immediately.

This Certainly needs much more work. THis is not confirmatory of any conclusions. But it is consistent with observation on the ground – unlike most of what the media has been spewing to the American people. But this is how science works. This paper is about the gamma variant but a conference yesterday with experts discussed that similar findings were being found in delta and lambda. The suggestion in this paper is now on the front of my mind. I am even now thinking of ways to confirm or falsify these conclusions going forward. This is science.

Another issue. The writers make the point that the breakthrough rate is extremely divergent from the expected rate. The difference is this paper documents what is happening in REAL LIFE. So much of what we are hearing on our media about vaccine efficacy is research being done in vitro. It is presented as gospel truth. I just want to scream.

Yeah, might as well just give up on education and outreach, right? Forget about trying to counter the ongoing antivax propaganda. Oh, evil democrats are going to shoot people if they don't get vaccinated.

No recognition that people like trump, who are not antivaxers, might actually be able to influence the behaviour of their followers by advocating for vaccination.
