Around here, they all have stop signs requiring a complete stop before entering. Hell, no one here knows how to make a boulevard turn. Everyone goes past the turning vehicle and turns behind each other, not in front of each other. Talk about things that piss me off, not that anyone asked. Traffic circles without stop signs in areas where the average age is 70 something and barely able to see ? I sell glasses to these people.

Here we started building new ones long time ago.Now we are taking down traffic lights and replace them with roundabouts. All the new roundabouts started out a new past time hobby for some,,, Making "roundabouts dogs" a placing them in the roundabouts.

very interesting article...
A roundabout solution to traffic woes (look at the roundabout design on that page) regards We have many of these circles as we call then here in the Akron / Cleveland metro area. They have too many drawbacks. They require cooperation amongst drivers, like using turn signals and staying in lanes. Slowly accerlerating vehicles such as large trucks clog them up when dodging more nimble cars. Everyone must stop, regardless of traffic wasting fuel. They take up an inordinate amount of space and if landscaped in the center, require expensive maintenence. Lastly, they require people to actually be able to read signs to know exactly where they are going. FWIW : The traffic light was invented and first used here in Cleveland.

A roundabout solution to traffic woes Sep. 26, 2011 FRANKLIN - When traffic roundabouts first came to the McKay's Mill neighborhood, so did confusion for many drivers. Homeowner newsletters, over and over again, explained how to navigate the unfamiliar intersections where you ease your car into a circular drive and exit on another side. But puzzled or not, drivers are having far fewer accidents at roundabouts scattered throughout the region than at traditional intersections. And many more roundabouts are in the works in both residential and commercial districts. (look at the roundabout design on that page) regards I learned how to navigate roundabouts 30+ years ago when working in Saudi Arabia. And they had big ones 4-5 lanes wide, like being in a dodgem ride.

(look at the roundabout design on that page) regards They do work if people have the rules explained to them over and over. There are a few roundabouts that I go through where many other drivers often have no clue - they cut-off other drivers in the circle or stop within the circle to allow waiting drivers in, etc... It seems like it depends on the time of day or location - as well as the education - for those to be effective.
