America’s new elites, fancying themselves superior to the rural, the old, the religiously inclined and the rest, have increasingly turned politics into something that is done to people, for their own good, rather than by people according to their moral outlook. And then they wonder why people go looking for something else, something less sneering.
Because nothing quite says "anti-elitism" like a brash, "beholden to none", Ivy League billionaire...
PS: Reminds me of Murdoch's "anti-elitist" cash cows.
Anger seems like just one angle he plays. Perhaps the larger issue is his open narcissism. All candidates are probably to a certain extent narcissists. But Trump is open and embraces his narcissism (as he did in his career), which somehow his supporters find endearing and honest.
I've seen the same trend throughout the business community...embracing characters like Trump. The movie Wall Street has the villain Gordon Gekko, and i think most viewers perceived him as a villain when the movie came out in the 80s. But today, Gekko is more a hero than villain. He's somehow a harmless character, just doing what's in his best interest.

Probably not at all.. as I said, I am not the least surprised that people are angry, globally, because the last thirty years have seen the greatest increase in wealth the world has ever known and 90% or more of the population EDIT: in mature economies /EDIT have seen their real wealth actually fall over the same time.. We should all be angry but nobody seems to have any solutions.. and to be honest Trump doesn't either. He's just mining this vein of discontent to advance his own position. His entire past reeks of it. But he is not going to deliver any more than any of the others have.

I think you are on the money here Kurtster. Trump is mining a rich vein of anger and frustration. Can't say that I am that surprised.
But, unlike you, I am not sure about the constructive part of his policy if he actually does get elected. Anger can be a positive force for change, but what exactly is his program? How is he going to help his fan base exactly? Or is he just going to help his closest cronies with yet more shady deals and end up ripping off the country who elected him?
Appealing to fear usually does not end well.
I hear a lot of promises from Trump as to how everyone is going to be happy with whatever it is he will do, that it will be great, and that America will be great again and seen as winning. winning, and winning.
I have not done the deep dive that Kurster has done, so maybe there are more specifics on some of these issues.
But let me just throw out one example: We know he is going to build not just a wall on the U.S./Mexican border, but a "great wall." Ok. But he also has repeatedly stated that he will get Mexico to pay for that great wall. Has he explained how that is going to happen?

Maybe. Me, I have invested dozens of hours going deep into Trump looking into what he is really all about. I will vote for him as long as he is still standing, period end of story. No more status quo or quid pro qou for me. To paraphrase Rove the other day, Trump is standing in front of the plate glass window with a brick in his hands and his supporters are angry, putting the bricks in his hands to throw. imho, the anger is just as real as Trump. If you don't understand the depth and reasons for the anger, you won't understand Trump.

I was working on a point by point answer to all you questions this morning and had about an hours worth of time invested so far. Then that little thing happened over in the Supreme Court thread and I decided that I needed to get away for awhile. So I come back tonight to complete the effort and as I am rereading your questions I see the above and determine that its not worth all the time as you are not really interested in what I have to say regarding Trump.
So I will just leave it where it sits. Yes, I can back up everything I said with good references, but no one really cares. So why bother.
No bad feelings towards you. Just ain't worth the time for things people have already made up their minds over.
That's fair. Drop the word clown. I guess he's no different than most politicians...he's in it for the power, not necessarily to fix anything or actually make the country "great." At the least, I don't agree with what he thinks is great. If he is elected, I think he will be as ineffective as Sanders might be in getting anything done like building walls, forcing companies to start manufacturing in the US...
Time to simma down, my friend. The only thing worse than a sore loser is a bad winner.
In these parts, the picture of Beck is most meaningful. Since you and I are the only two people rooting for Trump, there isn't much to say anymore. I'm just gonna sit back and watch all the hate that will no doubt come flooding out. While I share your excitement, it might be fun for you to sit back and watch how the hate manifests itself around here in the coming days and just let it happen, unopposed. You may find it enlightening to see how far people will go. There will be many things said that cannot be taken back or disavowed to be used later on, that is if you are going to be here in the long term.
Just sayin' ...
ymmv ...
Well... I've been here 3 years already, just haven't posted much. Having seen enough Trump hate to last a lifetime I'm not too concerned.
However my last post was deliberately OTT. The crazy animated gif should have made that obvious. I do have the label of 'Shill' to play up to.
However I hear what you are saying. Maybe one day I will actually start to care what the haters think.
Delegates Trump - 12 Rubio - 5 Cruz - 5 Glenn Beck's face when Trump crashed his caucus speech.

“I love the evangelicals,” he said, adding later: “We did well with the poorly educated. I love the poorly educated.”
I suspect it is reciprocal for the some of the latter.
“Soon the country is going to start winning, winning, winning,” he said. “You’re going to be proud of your president and you’re going to be even prouder of your country.”
