the word TASER is an acronym for Thomas A Swift Electric Rifle. It's named after the sci fi character Tom Swift.

hobiejoe wrote:The fork as an eating utensil was first introduced to the dining rooms of England by Thomas Coryate, a contempory of Shakespeare, who also introduce the English to the umbrella. The convention of forks having four tines did not become established until the late 19th century, before when numbers varied between two and six. The history of the aberration that is the "spork" is of little consequence and need not detain us here.
Sporks are essentially-useless aberrations, but they've been around (in various forms) for almost 200 years.

i have a fork that my grandmother, who was born in 1900, called her "granny fork." it had been in her family for generations...it has three long tines, a wooden handle, and she always used it for cooking bacon. that's what i use it for, too. the tines are sharp enough to pierce the end of the bacon strip for easy turning. this fork is "palpably" ancient....i love that my grandmother's grandmother had it, and handed it down. the wooden handle is dark with the oil from generations of loving hands.
