What is even more interesting is this passage that comes from Betsy Ross' Wikipedia entry: Ross's body was first buried at the Free Quaker burial ground on North 5th Street in Philadelphia. Twenty years later, her remains were exhumed and reburied in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in the Cobbs Creek Park section of Philadelphia. In preparation for the United States Bicentennial, the city ordered the remains moved to the courtyard of the Betsy Ross House in 1975; however, workers found no remains under her tombstone. Bones found elsewhere in the family plot were deemed to be hers and were re-interred in the current grave visited by tourists at the Betsy Ross House. The bigger issues is whether Betsy Ross is even buried at her house or where her remains are at all right now... wow. i'm related to betsy ross.

I took this pic of the gatehouse the last time that we were there.
I just stumbled on this pic while looking through pics on Old Images of Philadelphia's FB page.

The guide book briefly describes the five public commons that William Penn incorporated into his plan for his “Greene County Towne”—namely, Penn (formerly Centre) Square, Washington (South East) Square, Franklin (North East) Square, Rittenhouse (South West) Square, and Logan (North West) Square. It also characterizes Independence Square as “enclosed by a substantial iron railing, and planted with trees; the walks are tastefully laid out and gravelled—it is thrown open to the public, and as a promenade, is a place of general resort.”
