Culturally, former Soviet satellite and historic close ties to Russia, but you knew that which raises the question why you would phrase it in such a way that it has nothing to do with Russia?{#Stupid}  The arrogance of some in this forum is hard to take sometimes.  Couldn't possibly imagine why those that have different viewpoints would not want to listen to you.{#Eek}

I know this is dated, but a belated congratulations to one of the best mma fighters of all time and one of my favorites Khabib Nurmagomedov.  Love this perspective from Dagestan, they received so much joy from his victory and it was nice to see.  Through getting to know Khabib, I have developed a greater understanding of Islam and with all of its faults particularly in the treatment of women and LGBQ there is still a lot of virtue in the religion and values the West could use more of quite frankly.   The only thing more dangerous than religion is its absence:

Been meaning to mention this regarding all of the snarky post about Russian involvement solely to assist Trump.   Quite frankly Russia does not even care who actually wins these elections though they have to be quite pleased with the prospect of a Trump/Sanders election cycle, they win either way big time probably even more so with Comrade Sanders who they can run roughshod over.   No, it is about sowing doubt and discontent about the purity of our election process.  Nothing pleases them more than to hear the shouts of questioning the validity of the last or any election.  They rejoice at your lamentations, that is what it is really about.   They are exploiting our extreme tunnel vision of partisanship and we fall for it hook, line and sinker.

It looks pretty clear that their overall intention is to shake American confidence in the electoral process regardless of outcomes, but what makes you so sure they don't care about the election results?  Was it something you read on RT?  It seems to me that Putin is pretty content with the excuse-making lackey presently occupying the White House - a President who won't even admit to any sort of interference despite abundant evidence from his own intelligence agencies.

“He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be,” Trump said. “So I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today. And what he did is an incredible offer. He offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators, with respect to the 12 people. I think that’s an incredible offer.”

Trump's motivations are clearly to protect his shield and his election and are entirely selfish which is mo for virtually every Trump motivation.  And yes Trump is certainly easier to deal with from Putin's perspective than our previous leaders from either party and quite frankly I think it is a good thing.  America's culpability in Russian-American relations has not been addressed properly imo, in short we been playing dirty pool with Russia and her interest as much as they have been with us and I actually think this is a positive for us to right some of the wrongs.  Sanders would no doubt be good for Russia as well, but at too much of a cost of our interest and whether you like Trump or not, his nationalist way of thinking is no doubt from an American first viewpoint whether it turns out that way or not.

But, but, but.....collusion!{#Lol}  Seriously though we need to quit messing around with other countries and let them sort it out themselves.  Russia is right to do something about our aggression and protect her interest.

The Russian Spy Who Wasn't
The U.S. government went looking for someone to blame for Russia's interference in the 2016 election—and found Maria Butina, the perfect scapegoat.
