My thanks, too, for all the fine work you've done on the new site. Having the player on each page is a big plus.

And,

8:51 pm   Ledward Kaapana, Radio Hula
made me think of something Cuzzin Al often does in the middle of his Bluegrass show.

Loved it.

Yeah, the Hip's is more of an homage to the traditional than a version, per se.  Good stuff.

I think FG is one of those songs that's so old, with so many versions, there's no way to determine it's 'original' provenance. A quick search revealed a number of versions, all variations of a similar theme, sort of an Irish Valhalla. The Hip's version pays fine tribute to the genre.

I wonder how Fiddlers Green would stand up to treatment by a crappily played mandolin...That might bear investigation.

There's a new community radio station here in Pete - just a few months old. I've listened to some of the music programs and they're mighty interesting but also jarring and random.

Not to mention the frequent 10-20 seconds of dead air time, of the interview that spans the hour but fails to mention the guest's name or the station letters after the ads.

I'd love to put a 2-hour program together but I keep thinking - WWBGD? I don't have his talent, that's for sure.

Thanks, Bill.

My music distribution system of choice when I'm at a computer is Internet radio. I just discovered the American Jazz Institute's new site at mamjazzin.org. You can also find them on live365.com, which offers a huge variety of stations.

But my favorite station is radioparadise.com, based out of Paradise, Calif. It's programmed by a pair of radio veterans who know how to tell stories through the juxtapositions of their songs. They create threads of music that hurdle genres to not only expose you to new music but to prepare you for new types of music by setting you up with songs you like.

Radio Paradise offers a human touch by people who understand the art of programming. I don't like every song they present, but I like most of them because they have remarkable taste in a variety of music from alt rock to ancient blues.

With Radio Paradise, I'm never bored and I'm often exhilarated. No computer program and few humans can make me feel that way.

I can't even do that when I'm selecting music from my own beloved library.
