Watching the Paris-Roubaix this morning... what a fantastically random and difficult way to race.

59km of cobblestones...ouch!

That’s the one my wife’s got. We got similar ones for our anniversary, quite a few years ago.  It’s a really nice bike, and I still like mine. Not sure the e-bike is a must-have as long as these are running well - but the e-thing would be useful for zooming around doing errands and not getting too sweaty, so that’s why it’s on my radar.

we recently got them reconditioned/over-hauled versus buying new ones
nice long ride yesterday...had perfect weather and rp and soma fm as our soundtrack

The local Specialized shop owner got one that his wife uses every day the streets aren't icy so she's been on it for about a year and a half. Saw her yesterday and yeah she was flying. So anyway durability seems reasonable and she hasn't gone back to her regular bike so the charging or whatever she has to do daily hasn't been a problem.

Rules were officially adopted Oct. 2 that they're allowed in National Parks anywhere regular bicycles are. In Yellowstone, there's a set of paths at Old Faithful that will be very popular.

I've only ridden one a little bit and it goes fast enough that as a cyclist I would really insist on wearing a Hi-viz vest and taking up the entire lane like a motorcycle... If you're doing 25 when most bicycles do 10, you're going to get into situations...

That's sweet.

When we were in Europe it seemed like there were a LOT of people with plain bikes and motorized add ons. They didn't look like a rich person's extravagance, but a poorer person's car substitute. But, looking at them once I got home, they were way more expensive than I ever would've expected, like a luxury.

This is almost my current ride. About the only difference is that my fenders are yellow instead of black. The wife rides a multi-gear job.

This is the one getting my attention. Looks like there’s no way to get one under $1K, and this one is about $2K. Expensive, yes, but but cheaper than getting, insuring, and maintaining  a car. (We downsized to a single auto, but it would be nice to have a secondary option when one of us is using it.)

I walked by the store in SF one day and fell in love with the look, but kept going. Now it’s something that’s a real possibility.

Just bought a couple for my wife and myself. They are terrific. Gives my old legs a new super power. If you have a choice, get one with a removable battery so you can bring it inside to charge.  Good luck.
