I've always loved how the overtones in her incredible voice and those wild guitars seem to match and resonate so perfectly, and ring in the ear for a long, long time... The bass is wicked bad, as well. Amazing!
This has Sonic Youth "Incinerate" vibes...love it!

Great musicians emulate other greats and make something amazing that stands on its own.

Her voice strikes my heart strings yearn and soar simultaneously.  My soul is better for this song.
If I never hear her again, it’ll be too soon. :-)

Yes! The main guitar riff for sure
way overplayed here.
29 years later, her message is still spot on
good energy Sam!
I bet she puts on a good live show.    She seems to like playing guitar. That's always a good sign.
Sam P is an amazing writer and T-bone is a fab producer… He is literally on everything. And yes he does put his influences into his music. It’s fucking art and appreciation folks. You love someone so you pay fucking tribute. Amen
She's plays a nice guitar on this.  Or someone does.

And there's a nice stereo separation on this.
I love the tone of the bass on this track.
Does anybody else hear incinerate by Sonic Youth?
Sounds a  lot like Fleetwood Mac.

No need to be sorry. Her voice is one of things I really like about her music. I'm not sorry at all.

Fixed.
Sam and T-Bone nail it. Yardbirds and Beatles influence noted.

Exactly.  It's especially annoying how the people posting the allegations seem to think that they're the only people who have ever heard of "Heartful Of Soul".  As if T. Guitar work totally different.
Love this song. Thank you RP and SP.

I thought it was "I Need Love" which is why I bought the album.  Hmm.
Sorry, I can't stand her voice.
Thought this was a cover of "heart full of soul" at first.

To my ears this is just a nice little tune.  Artists, painters, writers (including musicians) have always borrowed from their peers so be kind to Sam folks.  She's a talent.  Just enjoy the music.

Amusing observations here...
Blinding glimpse of the obvious...
Not setting the world on fire, but enjoyable nonetheless!

Copy/Improve is a time honored process... although you have to be careful with cord progressions...
Yes to jeff beck and i was expecting secret agent man after the first few notes lol
Bill's sense of humour: Heart Full of Soul has been played exactly one hour before this today. At first, I was wondering if there's something wrong with the FLAC stream. But when the singing started in, I thought, well, I cant't remember The Mac citing The Yardbirds.

And yes, of course it's an homage, not a ripoff.  This is T Bone Burnett we're talking about.

That's an interesting idea: Stevie and Lindsey covering this song. I can kind of hear it.

Yeah, and not only did they rip off the riff they also ripped off the exact tone of the riff :^ /

Like RP it's just a perfectly crafted, eclectic mix of tracks from different times and complimentary genres. Bill could play this soundtrack start to finish and it'd fit perfectly with everything else on here.

Excellent soundtrack, I agree. Difficult to find on CD. I still have the cassette tape, but no player{#Frown}

Album title: "Martinis and Bikinis".

Now...that's a cool title and allows for a certain vision...

After years of hearing this great piece here, I am a bit amused to see that this same observation keeps arising: It's a ripoff! Does this mean that every chord sequence that is not original represents a theft? Obviously, T Bone Burnett and crew were not attempting to put anything over on an audience. This album is also heavily Beatles-influenced. All this music is part of our collective aural DNA (not a reality I suppose, but maybe a suitable analogy) and themes repeat. Anyway, this is not a complete replication of the Yardbirds sound.

{#Yes}

Sounds like she has a "Heart Full of Soul"

Great podcast with Sam as a guest talking about her love of vinyl.

absolutely one of my favorite songs, on RP or anywhere. Many times Sam Phillips voice gets redundant or annoying, but here everything works perfectly.

After playing Same Changes by Sam Phillips, Then Rain by The Beatles,  RP could have mixed the titles and played my favorite Sam Phillips song...Same Rain off of Martinis and Bikinis!   But Bill, please don't think twice about that comment - I've never heard a DJ in my life whose musical tastes (n all areas) are aligned so closely as you and your wife's are with mine!

She's good.
Been a big Sam Phillips fan for many years-echo great production and songwriting plus her distinctive vocal apparatus!

One of my favorite album covers.
I really love this hotter, more rock-oriented side of her music.  She can kick out the jams - just wish she'd do it more often!

Really like the harmonies and the grooving bass line is killer. Nice hook and feel. The cover lends itself to more trouble than I care to think of....nice art.

The voice works for me.

It has a rich, sensuous quality.

I think it would be improved by a "fuller", less shrill voice.
I still like it though.
