The case was pulled from under the bed
She made a call to a sympathetic friend and made arrangements
The door was closed, there was a note
I couldn't be bothered, maybe I'll choke, no more engagements
With where-have-you-beens and far away frowns
Trying to be good by not being 'round

And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart

That stupid old bug that kills only love
I want to be good, is that not enough

So play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
Then play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart

I had excuses, those little boy lies
That she computed by watching my eyes and told me firmly
She couldn't stand it, I'm bad on her heart
She dropped her make-up and I found the bar, now it concerns me
I've had a bad time, now love is resigned
I've been such a fool, I've loved and goodbyed

So here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart

Quintessentially English band, very clever lyrics and great energy.  Love 'em to bits, me old china
Love it to pieces -- and will always remind me of the 2nd time I saw Glenn solo, at a hip little joint in Kichijoji. He treated us to this, nailing our hearts to his as he passionately banged away on a baby grand, but to me, the coolest Rock n Roll Hero thing he did at that show was blowing us away with an inspired cover of Fountains of Wayne's "Red Dragon Tattoo." The first time I saw him, at The Soiled Dove in Denver in 2001, he absolutely floored me by granting my request for "Up The Junction," which, I believe, is one of the very finest novels ever sewn up in a song. Thanks, Glenn!

0k not everyone has an experience like that at a concert. You been doing any stage dives lately?
This is a top album. All the best stuff.
Difford and Tilbrook are a pair of fine songwriters and no mistake.
I was lucky enough to see Squeeze with Jools Holland tickling the ivories.

great video.
i love this band.
can't count how many times i've seen them live.
Costelloish
If you haven't had the chance to see them in concert,  I highly recommend going. Seasoned professionals who still bring the passion.  When I saw them at The Capitol in Port Chester the fans were ecstatic.
Jools Holland!
Tight band.
These clever clever bastards with their lyrics...  Beautiful squeeze!

true that.  saw them last summer and they were great,.. they took me back to high school.  they have a ton of great songs.
Uh oh,

That album cover reminds me to slow down on the Negronis, on Saturday afternoons.
Back in the late 1970s, I read a statement above a urinal in college that claimed Squeeze was gonna be bigger than the Beatles.

That always stuck with me because I had no clue who Squeeze was.

Is this what you would call a Squeeze Play?
Squeeze are Cool For Cats.
A Squeeze song I'm actually enjoying, to my surprise!
I'm usually annoyed by the pinched voice...

Nope, you’re wrong. It’s “for”. Always has been. That’s what he sings.

You do realize that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and the rest of the gang were "pop" music at the time?
I  heard 'another milf of my heart'. Could be the other websites I visit.

Loving this but you really should play more of the greatest hits.

And  Partridge/Moulding  from XTC  will also be there.

AMG has it listed that way, but I just checked my physical CD (which I've had for a dog's age) and it shows the title as "Another Nail For My Heart", which matches the lyrics.  Not sure why it would have changed.

YAH- I was there too. One of my top shows of that timeframe. Orpheum Theater in Boston. Everyone was up and jammed into the aisles. Als- times have changed and they don't allow folks to have fun anymore.
The title of the song is, 'Another nail IN my heart', not 'for'.
I live on the Kenai Peninsula and  drive an old car that still plays cassette tapes. This one is in my regular rotation during my drive up the Seward Highway and it never gets old for me.
Very, very, very good tune.
RP rocks!

Very happy to be seeing them live this September!
One of the sweetest guitar solos!
Repetitive repetition over and over.

What a wonderful surprise to hear this! Amazing album!
If such is possible, this is almost TOO tuneful. A surplus of verve and hooks.
Few bands had the hooks and turns of phrase that Squeeze had through their various incarnations, culminating even with Paul Carrack on East Side Story, I believe ("Tempted").

As long as you didn't piss in the beer, all's forgiven...

For a while Squeeze was truly brilliant.

Love that Farfisa organ sound from that era!

Pitch perfect POP. Great songwriters, these blokes.
Everybody probably has that one band, that band that just connects with them, that band that you just wish would get more recognition than they did.  Squeeze has always been that band for me.

I just saw them last year and they still put on a great show.  Tight musicianship, wonderful harmonies, Glenn's guitar playing is still fantastic.  Very nice folks also for the after show meet and greet, well Chris looked like he would have rather been sitting in the dentist chair, but other than that....

No! It's about to end and then everything will go from Technicolor to dull and drab again....

Yeah—and I got to witness it all over again 32 years later in Milwaukee at Summerfest.  They basically play a greatest hits show these days, but they've got some "great hits" to trot out, so it's all good.

Here's how it went down on 7/8/12:

Take Me I'm Yours
If I Didn't Love You
In Quintessence
Is That Love
Tommy
Top of the Form
Another Nail in My Heart
Melody Motel
Cool for Cats
Up the Junction
Honey Trap
Goodbye Girl
Bang Bang
Annie Get Your Gun
Hourglass
Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)
Tempted
Encore: Slap and Tickle
Black Coffee in Bed

Jools on this track?
One of my big regrets never having seen these guys. Love all of their work. Catchy pops with interesting lyrics.

Brings back memories of England in the summer of 1980. One of the classic albums of that era. What a great band.
How many other songs make me perk up, happy, and somewhat optimistic? How many other songs have such a great melody, harmony, and joy?
Legendary !!! {#Bananajam}

Nope.  This song was originally on "Argybargy", which I bought when it came out in early 1980.

I saw Squeeze that summer at Duffy's, a bar in SE Mpls.  We stood (and occasionally danced) about 5 feet from Jools Holland (who soon after left the band).  He was kind of a "carnival barking emcee' for Squeeze back at the beginning.  THAT WAS FUN!
ya know, I just might call this lower-case rock-n-roll which means I DO like it

Banal.
I was never a Squeeze fan, and I don't like this song at all. I really didn't like pop music in the 80's at all. I listened to Bach for the decade.
{#Bananapiano}{#Dancingbanana}{#Bananasplit}{#Dancingbanana}
I've always loved Squeeze.

Back in the '80s, I found a lot of the music to be bloodless and cold (which was in style I guess).

Bands like Squeeze and XTC were more to my liking.
I agree Squeeze is a tight focused band whom takes advantage of their opportunities on tour. However, their  body of work stands on it's own in my opinion. They have a definite tongue in cheek point of view for much of the work but none the less, they are a tight, clever, talented, songwriting group.

I call those "button songs" as they had me reaching for the "off button" on my car radio back in the day. Would rather ride in silence for a few minutes.

As for Squeeze, I wasn't much of a fan until I saw them open for Elvis Costello on his first US tour. They were a tight, workman-like band who made the most of their 45 minutes, so I have at least respected them for their professionalism.

My loss, I'm sure.

Not at all fred, if you don't like them then not listening to them is good for you. Music is totally and completely subjective, who is to say what is "good" or not? What is good is whatever you like and what is bad is whatever you don't like, same goes for all of us. How is that for a definition?{#Lol} BTW, I happen to really like this song and Squeeze in general, but to each his own!{#Cheers}
