Til' I hear an old train rollin' down the line
Then I hurry straight home and pack
And if I didn't go, I believe I'd blow my stack
I love you baby
But you gotta understand
When the Lord made me
He made a ramblin' man
Some folks might say, that I'm no good
That I wouldn't settle, down if I could
But when that open road, starts to callin' me
There's somethin' o'er the hill, that I gotta see
Sometimes it's hard, but you gotta understand
When the Lord made me, He made a ramblin' man
I love to see the towns, a-passin' by
And to ride these rails, 'neath God's blue sky
Let me travel this land, from the mountains to the sea
'Cause that's the life I believe, He meant for me
And when I'm gone, and at my grave you stand
Just say God called home your ramblin' man
RIP Hank, you're in no pain now.
If you don't get it; not our problem.
9 from me.
I agree!! I HATE pop-country!
HATE? Like how you might feel about Hitler, or Jeffery Epstein? I know, I know, still evoking that terrible word for 'dislike' doesn't do anything good for anyone.
LLRP!!
I bet this song sounds even better with the scratch and pops of an old 78 running through it.
maybe not better, but more authentic. Add some warble and the slowing down because you didn't crank enough.
Florida Georgia Line should be beaten to death with 78's of this song for the travesty that they have made of country...

Ok, I've "matured" over the past 16 years. I take back this comment.
congrats
but it was a bit funny too

I don't think so, He's son got none of his talent.
But HIS son does. Hank III is great, he has that 'high lonesome' voice.
c.
Average rating 7? Really? How does this happen? This is pure horror to me. Seems to be a special "american thing". Okay, have your fun, I'm out.

"Clutching my pearls" is the only way I'd hit those high notes...
Agreed.

Respect the cat! LOL

…for a traditional »American thing« country song a solid 7 doesn't seem to be such a bad rating at a first glance. Not to mention that RP gets more and more international (cheers from Hamburg / Germany)
However - if I don't like a music genre as a whole - let's say C&W - I simply don't vote for those songs, at least to not offend the respective enthusiasts and artists… it's so easy.
Long live RP!

Agreed; should be much higher.
Listening to this again, I still like it very much, but the album art + the voice makes me think, "There's a snake in my boot!" Sorry...
are you fucking a jerk-off or what?
Ethnic? Please explain.
Pasty faced folks from northern Europe. A dog's breakfast of tribal and racial inputs if there ever was one. That is the ethnic group.
US country music as 'ethnic music'. I like it.
Agreed; should be much higher.
Pure horror. Very funny.
Yes, it's an American thing. I appreciate your wry humor.

My father, who loved Hank Williams, was called home 5 years ago today.
How many times he sang this and I'd roll my eyes
Hearing this again brought me to a standstill as I thought of my rambling man, Dad
Agreed. That said, its far from my favorite HW tune.
This track has some comedic gold in the comments. From a quick looksee, here's my favorite line. I'm anticipating some BillG comments about the comments coming soon.
As for the song, I rate a 7 - I'm not into modern C&W - the older stuff isn't bad, and come on now, 1952...that's some early shit there. Give him his props for doing something different than others were doing...he was a pioneer for sure.
Long Live RP!

Maybe if NZ gets invaded by aliens you can crank this up and their heads will explode.
sounds American to me, i give it a 9
Oh, we're sorry, you've accidentally tuned in to a station that plays excellent music.
No doubt classic rock lounge is better suited to your tastes. Crank up the Foreigner!
In the early 1980s, I was lucky to get a job slashing seismic exploration lines in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I recall that Foreigner was very popular in camp. Somebody would blast it out so you could hear it everywhere.

More like fried SPAM. But if you have not had fried SPAM and eggs, you haven't lived.
This is classic. A strong 8 and a hankering for more.
Hank Williams is to music what the Beatles are to music. Genre is irrelevant when the players are this transcendent.
yup
My ears are bleeding, make it stop please.
Ha ha ha! He may be great in some circles but I'm with you, I'm not hear to listen to this old stuff that I was forced to listen to on a.m. radio in the 60's before FM made it's way to my little mountain community in Colorado. Let's get back to the fantastic alternative and indie music, please!!
My ears are bleeding, make it stop please.
no exaggeration

Yes! This is country's version of the blues. One of my favorite Hank tunes is "Honky Tonkin' " which Ron Howard used well in "Apollo 13."
The real thing.
My feelings as well.

Everybody in my churches loves this song...
Don't forget that there are those singer/songwriters who are carrying on the older traditions of "country" music.
Hard to forget that on RP. Tons of awesome alt country on this station! Emmylou, Patty, Josh Ritter, Neko Case, etc etc etc!
I love Hank because I can actually hear the miles in his voice. The music is so pure and his lyrics reference and America that is both real and the stuff of legend.
Great pick.... I just love Hank Williams... Haunting, soulful, and sad.....
Wow-! Good set. Good segue... Really has it been -59- years since this was first released...?

All rights reservedI know what you mean about 'country' music though. It's that overproduced Nashville sound I can't stand.
Dadgum Hank!
When I'm drinking whiskey alone at home, I listen to Hank
I think I would have to be very drunk to listen to much more of this
