Yes, but don't confuse whining negativity, which unfortunately seems to have taken too much root in the RP community, with thoughtful, intelligent criticism. Most of us have paid our dues with working bands and have too much respect for the guys who have made it, who have actually put something recorded out there for everybody else to either buy or take aim at, to zing them with cheap shots. All of them are incredible musicians who can play rings around the rest of us--that's why they're pros. They are also chock full of novel, fresh ideas both musically and lyrically. They have a commitment to an artistic vision--regardless of what you think about the quality of the vision--that compels them to compose. Go ahead, write a song. Then write the band charts. Then rehearse the band and produce the song so it matches that elusive idea that screamed to be let out of your head. I dare anyone. What you read here in the music forums is mostly fan chat, which, yes, can be strong even strident at times, but these are visceral, emotional reactions to music, which is an emotional art form. And the guy who gives everything a "1" in the end says more about himself than the music. That's Lesson No. 1 a good editor teaches the fledgling critic: it's not about you--it's about the music. Big, huge difference. All that said, I've never heard a bad song on RP. In fact in the 3+ years I've been dialing in, I've heard more new bands and new ideas than I thought possible for any radio format to deliver. Not all of them are compelling enough to make one rush out to buy the CD, but there's never a lack of options. It's eclectic--what it's supposed to be. If Bill tried to please everyone, then RP would become one of Clear Channel's hopelessly formulaic urban formats. Yuck. Add to that a 192kbps audio stream, the best I've yet encountered on the net, and the fact that it's FREE (if you're so inclined) and you've got a really neat corner of the universe to play in. How cool is that?

not their best, but i wouldn't hear them anywhere else! frag'em
utter phiss, sorry
this is really good!!!!
This one is okay, but me personally I'd rather hear Sunday Morning, Yellow Sky. I find her voice a little too twee, but man that bass player!

I'll hate it today.

very Joni circa Song to a Seagull - I'll have to check out their other stuff.
Happiness is when this song ends.

Is it true that critics are just frustrated musicians? Haven't heard this group in ages. Thanks RP!
This has some soul to it, but repeating "small town" more than a dozen times in a song brings back all too painful memories of John Mellenchumps crap small-town song.
egad!

At first I thought it was Joni Mitchell.
This song is a pretty good synopsis of what it's like growing up in a small town. I like it.
I was going to up my rating but I realized why this song rubs me the wrong way: I keep hearing echoes of Wang Chung's "Dance Hall Days" twisted in there especially at the beginning of the chorus. "Take your baby by the hand.... Dance hall days love!..." Ok, so it could just be me...
love both of their discs...thanks bill...
I love October Project, thank you for putting them on the playlist! However.. this is not one of their strongest songs, and the album, as mentioned below, October Project, is by far a much better collection of songs.
Never heard of these guys before. And now I know why! :headshake:
Incredible band that is, alas, no more. Of the two discs, October Project, is more fully thought out.
Thanks for more October Project, Bill!! Love it.
