Underneath the foreign stars
In a foreign place
Where they don't love you
I do turn
In the pale moonlight
Your eyes are wide
And the band plays
Everybody wants you
And he takes your hand, tenderly
And he whispers sweet surrender
Nothing, is how he feels about girls like you
With your flip flop smiles
And your big blue eyes on vacation
Dance with me into the ocean
Roll with me into the sea
Don't tell me the world is in trouble
Do you want to dance with me
Love changes hands
As the big waves crash
And the dream don't die but, I do
Where were you when I needed you
Right now, the telephone just rings
I'm cannot find you
Dance with me into the ocean
Roll with me into the sea
Don't tell me the world is in trouble
Do you want to dance with me, oh
Do you want to dance with me
Underneath the foreign sun
With a foreign man who's gone
And almost forgotten
Drink everything you see
And remember us and wonder
If you will be forgiven
Dance with me into the ocean
Roll with me into the sea
Don't tell me the world is in trouble
Don't tell me the world is in trouble
Dance with me into the ocean
Roll with me into the sea

Saw them live - they threw the setlist into the audience at the end of the show and I caught it. Then they threw another setlist into the audience and I caught that one too for some reason, so I gave it to somebody else.
Thought this was Cake. Definitely like it.

I had the same thought-not Cake!
Not cake ?
Thankyou Radio Paradise for introducing me to the Old 97's. Now a little part of my missing life has been found.
I always thought this song was about Natalee Holloway. Anyone else?
Thot it was Cake
I like it !

Old 97's bring their alt-country hits Saturday, Oct. 21, to Palatine's Durty Nellie's.

Just saw them live a couple of months ago in bar in Palatine, IL. They still bring the fun.
This isn't the exact setlist of the show I saw (it's from a show from a few night's earlier on the same tour). But they played many of these same songs, including the show opener (the fabulous "Melt Show"), "Doreen" before the set break, and these same 3 encore cuts.
They've ended their shows with "Timebomb" for years. You know it's coming. And yet, when it does...EUPHORIA!!

Ok - this seems overplayed now on RP....or is it b/c I can't stand it?!
Saw them last night in Dallas. Unfortunately they didn't play this. Otherwise a great show!
Marc Ribot-like guitar work
I think they're right up there with all the party-starters, for sure! They take some crazy turns and really run wild with them! A FUN song!

I just can't stand it when a band has such a vast range of material that different folks can choose their faves.
These guys have made MUCH better-sounding material than this crap.

"And The Band Plays, Everybody Wants You"
either the band is playing a cover of Billy Squier's "Everybody Wants You"
or
As the band is playing - everybody wants the girls in the song.
That's the great thing about Lyrics - there can have multiple meanings to different people.

Elvis Costello?
Love a literary song!
Really like this! Love the sort of sardonic lyrics, and the singing style matches it. The minor key makes it a bit sexy. Overall fun

Top tune, as we used to say in some circles.

Sounds as delicious as Cake

Jeez, this is tired and tuneless. Get a singer, dudes, 'til thenm 1
Sounds like a Ricky Martin song.
I forget who directed me to it, but nice bizarre video for this one... "Battlestar Fans"... lol
Segue excelente!
Great concert tonight at the Vogue.
We're ripping through a set of rocking beats and raging guitars, love it!

Was just feeling a bit surprised that this was indeed Old 97s. I was about to mute this baby thinking it was Cake.

I really am amused by the number of very negative comments about this song. This is the kind of song I expect to hear on...eCLECtic radio. It's not like this was thrown in on the usual drive time 'loop' you are used to listening to. I liked it. My two cents, yadayada..

Wow. More than I could ever hope to know about Old 97... I went to the link and was immediately swamped with too much information for my current space. I shall go back, because there are a lot of intriguing things I want to read. Thanks, as always, Businessgypsy. You're very good at stirring people out of apathy and into interest. :-DLove the Old 97's... but this,... not so much.

No, sorry, I just can't see it. There may well have been a couple of musical measures that sounded like Paint it Black. But that is all, and I really like Dance with Me. It gets a firm 7 from me.
Following it up with Paint It Black, which it clearly mimics musically, doesn't help. It still sucks.

Not so bad! Dont know why i gave this a 3!
Good Stuff!
The Old 97 was a famous train wreck that happened here in my town of Damnville in 1903. I wonder if any of the band is from this area or why they picked that name?

I've listened to this album 10thousand times. And I love it each time.
The Olds rule, and not just because they're a local band.

Sorta boring and formulaic— in my meager opinion But please play more Old 97's in general— yay!

Interesting. Now that you mentioned that, there are some similarities, especially on this track.
Seems as if they've been influenced by Cake on this album. Really different sound than what I'm accustomed to from the 97s.
