I kicked the blues today
They've up and washed away
But they'll be back again
I just can't say quite when
The blues could come and go
Just like a stone
The blues in fact for some
Becomes the norm
The blues can fill the room
The blues can lurk and loom
The blues will dog you round
And trail like a hound
It's true those low-down blues
Won't let you be
They'll distance you
From everything you see
They blues ain't just a good man feeling bad
Or just a stretch of feeling somewhat sad
As Janice Joplin knew
And Amy Winehouse too
You're not gon' lose the blues
With heavy drugs and booze
You think you're on the mend again but then
The blues will jump you just around the bend
The blues can catch you high and drag you low
The blues can find you any place you go
They blues ain't just a good man feeling bad
Or just a stretch of feeling somewhat sad
The blues won't pay no mind
Or give a rat's behind
The blues do as they choose
That's what makes blues the blues
The blues will sit right down and make a stand
You'll have to wait 'em out as best you can
They've up and washed away
But they'll be back again
I just can't say quite when
The blues could come and go
Just like a stone
The blues in fact for some
Becomes the norm
The blues can fill the room
The blues can lurk and loom
The blues will dog you round
And trail like a hound
It's true those low-down blues
Won't let you be

From everything you see
