Johnny's in America, no tax at the wheel
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
No-one needs anyone, they don't even just pretend
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Johnny's in AmericaI'm afraid of Americans
I'm afraid of the world
I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can't

I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can't
I'm afraid of AmericansJohnny's in America
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
Johnny wants a brain, Johnny wants to suck on a coke
Johnny wants a woman, Johnny wants to think of a joke
Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
Johnny's in America (ah-ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah)I'm afraid of Americans

Johnny's an American

'I'm Afraid of Americans' was written by myself and Eno. It's not as truly hostile about Americans as say 'Born in the U.S.A.': it's merely sardonic. I was traveling in Java when the first McDonald's went up: it was like, 'for fuck's sake.' The invasion by any homogenized culture is so depressing, the erection of another Disney World in, say, Umbria, Italy, more so. It strangles the indigenous culture and narrows expression of life.[8]

And who can blame him.
I was lucky to see this tour. Thumb on the pulse...

I thought this was a politics free zone. WTF. And to think I just started sending monthly donations. 😞 Maybe time to switch back to Pandora 🤮

It's a song, dude. Chill out.

"You no longer need fear anything, David."
- GOD

As an American, I can say I'm also afraid.  Perfect song for the current climate.
As a Canadian, can confirm this is a timely spin.  Great song! Thank you, William.
the version i was familiar with is V2:
A successful (and much darker) remix with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails placed number 66 on the US charts (Bowie’s best in a decade) and the music video featuring the remix was nominated for Best Male Video in the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Just an oddly-timed technical glitch. No censorship here. Ever.

This is cool, but I was utterly blown away by the original, and the video done with Trent Reznor, from almost 30 years ago... It barely got any play here, but my expat British friends and I used to jam to this in Tokyo a lot. Strange Times on Planet Earth, indeed!

Looks RP is a new addition to the growing list of good things that have become screwed up by politics. Guess I'll cancel my RP recurring donation and play my own music from my extensive library.
Not all Americans. Maybe just one at the moment. And a few others as well.

William's words for the last attempt were great. LOL

I hear it this time. I like it.

The genius video equally!
Silence. The next song has started playing as I write this. I'm trying hard not to read into this, but I've never known this before. Please, please, don't let it be due to censorship.
