Nobody's fault but mine
Trying to save my soul tonight
It's nobody's fault but mine
Devil he told me to roll
Devil he told me to roll
How to roll the log tonight
Nobody's fault but mine
Brother he showed me the gong
Brother he showed me the ding dong ding dong
How to kick that gong to life
Oh, it's nobody's fault but mine
Got a monkey on my back
Got a monkey on my back
Gonna change my ways tonight
Nobody's fault but mine
I will get down rollin' tonight
Nobody's fault but mine
No no no…. She’s running it
The bassist clearly is, not her...
nope, not at all…. Zep covered it and shut the door….
WRONG!!
But a pretty good cover of Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Which is kind of the point.

If you're unfamiliar with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, do yourself a big favor and search for her videos on YouTube. The woman was fantastic, a gospel singer who came up with a lot of guitar riffs that inspired a lot of rock and rollers years later.
Thank You for the info!

Did she do any work with Sister Rosetta Stone? She was something else.
Worst Zeppelin cover ever.

I like Joan, but she's a little too "white" for this great tune!
What?! White folks got rhythm!
Sheesh! Next you'll be sayin Elvis was too white for his early songs... Where will it stop?? Can't we all just get, err... Sing along?
(from The Commitments) Jimmy Rabbitte: Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud.

LMAO! No. Really. This kind of ignorance should be ridiculed mercilessly.

"Nobody's Fault but Mine" is a song first recorded by gospel blues artist Blind Willie Johnson in 1927

Joan Osborne performed at The Grand tonight with Paul Thorn and The Holmes Brothers. A great night of music.

Thanks for the great photo Calypsus_1!!!
Super cut too : )
I love Joan but wish she hadn't used a synthesizer and faster tempo for this. Great voices throughout but the music feels stuck in the mid-80s.
I'm a die-hard synth guy, and I don't hear any synth in this song. Are you confusing the Wurlitzer piano sound with synth?
Always good to hear different versions, but Blind Boys of AL or Led Zep knock this into a cocked hat
And I normally like Joan.
This just doesn't do it I'm afraid
I cannot help but wonder if you really mean that Joan Osborne actually repels you. There are loads of musicians whose work does not appeal to me, but repel? That's in another dimension. I however, think she's pretty fantastic.

There's always been something about J.O. that repels me. The Holmes Bros are cool, but she sounds like a Broadway singer trying to pull off the blues or something.

I think you mean "Led Zeppelin's adaptation of Blind Willie Johnson's 'It's Nobody's Fault But Mine'".

N-N-N NOOOOO bodies fault.....
Thanks for mentioning who did the better one. I paused Joan's version and went off to find this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrRubXC-AdI

sorry to the ENTIRE Gospel genre...
Go to the back of the class and recite 100 times,
''I must listen and appreciate the roots of Rock'n Roll''.
Keep it coming. I like the mix and enjoy the gospel based blues... Nice... Plus I had forgotten about her... Again, Thank You

"Joan Osborne performs this classic motown hit originally by Jimmy Ruffin. From the movie "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown"...a story about the motown house band known as The "Funk Brothers"."
She gets a raw deal, the musical version of being typecast because of her one hit. This is good.
funny, i just saw this comment of yours. i agree. i think she's got lots of soul, and i think it suits her voice very well. she's got that rawness, that...i don't know what to call it. but i think this really, really suits her. i like it a lot.
