An' I ride and I ride
I ride through the city backsides
I see the stars come in the sky
Yeah, the bright and hallowed sky
You know it looks so good tonight
I am the passenger
I stay under glass
I look through my window so bright
I see the stars come out tonight
I see the bright and hallowed sky
Over the city's ripped bare sky
And everything looks good tonight
A-singin'
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la
Get into the car
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
We'll see the city's ripped backsides
We'll see the bright and hallowed sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
Stars made for us tonight
(La la la la la la la la)
Oh, the passenger
How, how he rides
Oh, the passenger
He rides an' he rides
He looks through his window
What does he see?
He sees the slight and hollow sky
He sees the stars come out tonight
He sees the city's ripped backsides
He sees the winding ocean drive
And everything was made for you and me
All of it was made for you and me
'Cause it just belongs to you and me
So let's take a ride
And see what's mine
A-singin'
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la
Ooh, the passenger
He rides and he rides
He sees things from under glass
He looks through his window side
He sees the things that he knows are his
He sees the bright and hallowed sky
He sees the city sleep at night
He sees the stars are out tonight
An' all of it is yours and mine
An' all of it is yours and mine
So let's ride and ride and ride and ride
A-singin'
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la
A-singin'
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

Never gets old, a classic
do classics get old?
Always a good read, Iggy Pop and the Stooges Concert Rider
Thank You! Too funny!! LOL! ...a MUST READ!!!
Aretha Franklin --> Iggy Pop.
Thank you, Bill, for the back-to-back Detroit content!
We got the same Aretha intro 6/8/23 - weird!
Yep, this song always makes me smile !
Anthony Bourdain visited Iggy Pop on this Miami episode of Parts Unknown, and asked him, "what thrills you?"
And Iggy said: "This is really embarrassing, but what thrills me is being loved, and appreciating the people who are giving you that love"
Sadly, nothing thrilled Bourdain
Never heard of her. Did she do something remarkable?
I can tell you they have great sex.

The guy is a star
Hilarious! Now those concerts would have required hearing protection.
I wish someone had told me that back in the sixties. I don't which did more damage...music or racecars.
And Iggy said: "This is really embarrassing, but what thrills me is being loved, and appreciating the people who are giving you that love"
Iggy said: "This is really embarrassing, but what thrills me is being loved, and actually appreciating the people who are giving me that love"
I remember reading an interview with him when this album came out and he said that was his "Alfred E. Neuman" pose.
Below is James Osterberg's high school photo - 1965 Ann Arbor H.S.

There's more than just an influence from Bowie on this and Iggy's album prior to this - Bowie performed on and co-produced both of them.
Also singing the background vocals
... sounds like the Bowie influence was there. Heck, that is another tie in to Marc Bolan.

I also like the Siouxsie and the Banshees version. Bill?
Hmmm...not sure if this was a string of tracks (T Rex to Cowboy Junkies to Iggy Pop) based on influences, or if it's a dark set referencing Bolan's accident "i.e. lay it down" where his passenger lived....and maybe a death song will be next?
Crazy that this album came out the same year I did (womb, not closet) and sounds like the Bowie influence was there. Heck, that is another tie in to Marc Bolan.
Iggy Pop - Les Passantes (music by Georges Brassens with lyrics d'Antoine Pol), track from Après, a studio album of mostly French covers by Iggy Pop, recorded and released in 2012:
Je veux dédier ce poème
A toutes les femmes qu'on aime
Pendant quelques instants secrets
A celles qu'on connait à peine
Qu'un destin différent entraîne
Et qu'on ne retrouve jamais
A celle qu'on voit apparaître
Gavin Harrison told a funny story about touring with Iggy. He said the sound was so loud that the bass cabinets next to his drums made his eye balls vibrate.
Hilarious! Now those concerts would have required hearing protection.
pure Scheiße
Better get it out of your ears then.
pure Scheiße
I was kinda thinking he might buy a shirt first
He spent that money long ago - this album is almost 40 years old.
Yeah...HOW COME RP DOESN'T HAVE ANY STOOGES' SONGS IN THE LIBRARY?
Talk about NO FUN!!
Say what you like about his music, the man is an icon and has, for his part, changed the face of music over his life. He should be given a whole lot more credit than he does in my opinion.
Photographic shoot? Hugs from a charming Iggy? Just how hot is this Mrs. Poacher?
I agree with you on Iggy deserving more credit/fame. He certainly brings it when he performs live. The man has almost no fat on him:

(Poacher, hope your wife's back is better...)
Here, Here. Iggy is another home-town favorite. Love him...

If you're not an unsupervised quadriplegic who is perched more than nose distance from your sound system, then I'm afraid I have little sympathy for you.
Damn right.

Even The Igster wore a tie at one point!
Good looking kid. I wonder if his parents were disappointed with his career plans.
Thanks for that. Fascinating.
I love Iggy and Bowie.
Actually, not so many, in my opinion, and those two are really best choice, at least I never tire of them ;)
Es verdad

Noooooo! This is fabulous. Please keep it on, RP, and RTFB, you can just turn down the sound, OK? ... Like I do when anything by Natalie Marchant comes on.

It was weird.
True dat.
Every time I hear that opening riff and then that bell, I know I'm in for a good few minutes. Thanks Ig!
Yas, His Excellency. He's great in Jim Jarmusch's movie/s too.
(anyone a fan of Sons of Anarchy? this song will always remind me now of the collage of scenes ending with Gemma's car crash. Anyone?)
Great show, great song. I remember that scene well, and thought 'they've done a really good job of making me totally disliking a character that I used to adore.'
I too could never figure out the lack of "Stooges" on RP. Except, maybe, the music has so much sexy grind.

I read that as '...more pink or metal...' which is an interesting idea.
I like her version too but you have to respect the original.
Can't we get some more songs from The Igster up and going here at RP as a little belated birthday present? How about "I'm Bored" or "Five Foot One"...a couple of fun, sarcastic early 80's ditties?
Agree...more Iggy please...Five Foot One would be great...hell, some Stooges would be cool too...
IGGY IS STILL RIDING!
He and Keef will be the last rats to survive!
GORGEOUS!

Bill - remove this from your play list, it sucks
AHA! there you are! We've been looking everywhere for you!
