British! Cor blimey guvnor, never heard of them. Interesting.
I was born in 1971 and hardly get played.
A friend of mine used this track in 1975 to make a video of our local clubs hang gliding activity. I'm still listening to it and watching it 50 years later!
Wow! How did I miss this back when it came out? This was the height of my music exploration days, and yet this is the first I have heard this band. What a discovery.
Much work to to.

Man, I hadn't heard that in a while. And I've never heard it on radio. Thanks!
I learned to fly hang gliders in 1974, and a friend of mine used this track as the score for a short film he made about us flying.

Well this is new to me despite my musical coming of age at the time it was released and I am quite impressed! Thanks RP!
Shades of Nick Drake
....most excellent....
Did Styx crib that small section for Fooling Yourself?
Either way, this is nice.

As per bluedot's comment, it would be nice to hear a track with vocals.
One of the greatest albums ever, pick any track they are all superb. I grew up listening to this and I've never tired of it.

Love this band... they were a sensation in Winnipeg. One of the only outposts in Canada besides Toronto.
I have this on vinyl! I bought the disc after my friend Pete made a movie about our hang gliding adventures in the Ottawa Canada area in the early 1970s. Good memories, thanks!
Reminds me of Penguin Cafe Orchestra a bit at times

Good luck finding this album in a shop... :P Damn good fingerpicking.

Surprisingly you can pick it up on Amazon, at least on CD. I bought it on the interweb years ago. Track order is different than my vinyl LP, and it does not include "It Brings A Tear". Instead there's a different song about an old man and a young man I didn't care for that much.
Discogs has used LPs of this album and some others by Audience.

Might it just be that the orchestra arrangements are done by the same guy who worked with Nick Drake?

Totally new to me until today, but very interesting! Thanks (again) RP!
Nice. could do without the vocals though.
Am I the only one who hears Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds ? (And yes, I know this piece is older)
Takes me back to my student days - great! Audience performed at my college in 1972. I still have the vinyl.

"I Had A Dream" is one of the most amazing vocal performances I've ever heard. Howard Werth is an outstanding musician. Makes you wonder how many other great artists are out there undiscovered and under appreciated.
Leave to RP to be about the only place I've ever heard Audience played. Only exception I can think of was when I was on vacation out west somewhere, think it was the Yellowstone trip. In a nondescript restaurant out there and "House On The Hill" came on the sound system. I was gob smacked. Tried asking the hostess where they get their music from and she didn't seem to understand the question. Thinking back on it, maybe they pipe in Radio Paradise. I'd never heard of RP at that time.

Damn this is good
Love discovering new music thanks to RP!
got this album when first released
You could play something from this Audience album just about every day and I'd be happy. Desert Island music!
house on the hill a great favourite from the 70s
Oh so long ago, but I do still have this music on my desert island list.
Stuffed with almost everything, preferably lobster, I love raviole. This is pretty good too. But I give it a quite likeable 7 rating.
Up 1 to an 8 rating now.

Perfect... Put's me in the passenger seat of my mate's Fiat 850 in the late 70s... In a cloud of smoke. And that was not the fault of the Fiat.

Was fortunate enough to see Audience live a few years ago in Toronto at Jeff Healey's club. A spine tinglingly great show. Howard Werth is definitely one of the most under rated guitarists of his generation. Anyone who isn't familiar with their music should check them out. The vocals and sax playing on their tune Jackdaw alone are worth buying the CD.

I remember this great sound very well - tho I never knew who it was - well...now I know...thanks for a bit of music ed. RP
I'm pleased you've discovered this band. I've been a big fan since the 70's. Howard Werth and band still do occasional gigs in London.
Worth exploring more of their tracks from their albums 'Friend's Friend's Friend, House on the Hill, and Lunch

Oddly, or not, the only Audience song I ever heard was Jackdaw, from the early 70s. It was one of those songs that got a lot of play on FM 'underground' stations. The interplay between musicians (visa their albums) and radio can lead to missing some of the more impressive output from bands with some real chops. I guess this is the nature of this universe. Of course if I had bought an album, this comment would be unnecessary. And maybe it still is.
Pinball Wizard
Great to hear this one again.
Since there is no pipe, dog nor kids, perhaps that was a Freudian schlippe.
The album cover is how I picture my wife and myself, minus pipe, dog and kids. (not necessarily in that order)
I thought maybe Lindsey Buckingham for just a moment and then it morphed to a Stephen Caudel sound...very nice
marvelous !!!
Awesome, needs to be played more
I'd like to say "you had to have been there", but this group is new to me too. Thank you RP !
I discovered this band through the song I Had A Dream from the soundtrack to Life On Mars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blg9Nk_1T94
Still have the LP of this Its from 1971 btw...

The overtones in the middle remind me of some cool Hungarian stuff I've heard. Guess need to upload it and give everyone a crack at it.
The comment I had in my head was "quite tasty" and then I saw the song's title ...
one of the best albums of the seventies, awesome!
Very nice; not heard much around here.

Not sure P...I came here wondering as well. Could be some kinda local instrument thing....double reed?
Is that kazoo I'm hearing?
this SUCKS.
i mean it sucks that bill has chosen just about the ONLY audience song that doesn't feature the amazing vocals of howard werth.
hey, bill, how about "jackdaw" or "indian summer?" what a great, underrated vocalist! what about the KILLER audience version of "i put a spell on you"?
when jim morrison died, the doors were considering howard werth to be his replacement. luckily, that didn't happen, but it just shows what a respected singer audience's singer was/is.
was/is? whatever happened to howard werth?
oh. here we go:

First Time hearing this song. Great guitar..Love it
this is really nice ... love the strings
I LOVE THIS TRACK....SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! Thank you, thank you RP!
Good luck finding this album in a shop... :P
Damn good fingerpicking.
Gave this one a 7... had to come back and change it to an 8. Some fantastic guitar work here.
I like the guitar work but not the over produced background music.
great to hear Audience-and see some vintage Hipgnosis cover art
I prefer toasted ravioli...St Louis-style.
Raviole.....hm, getting hungry....it's lunchtime...
Like the pop art cover.
Yes more Audience, playing live in Winnipeg Manitoba this summer.
What if god is not happy with the way we live?

Goodness, this is the first thing I tuned into this morning when sitting down at my desk, and ya know.... I like it... has that sort of epic-rolling feel like Conquistador and some old ELO tracks.
