Come rise up
A new day is dawning
Come rise up
We be salin' at first light
Come Gather
Set our course for the crossing
Together
[Chorus:]
Sail on
Sail on
The river is waiting
Sail on
The river is waiting
I'm ready
To slip from this island
I'm ready
Gonna leave all my sorrow
Behind me
Lift my face to the new day
That's rising
[Chorus]
Not a fan of Fogerty nor CCR; but this is a magnificent, soulful song
Some people like espresso, others like a little sugar and cream in their coffee. John Fogerty serves both.
I think more likely it's that Marianne Faithfull smoked a lot of cigarettes. Whether they were "funny" cigarettes - well, a gentleman never tells.
very good, but his best song is BLUEBOY.anybody agree?
Agreed. As a solo artist
Fogerty ripped his vocal cords up in his youth providing us some of the most memorable sounds in rock n'roll history. I love his grinding screams, it made the CCR songs so gritty and soulful. Unfortunately, it was an unnatural affectation to try to emulate some of the raspy voices of the great Delta bluesmen and it cost him. So while we won't be hearing him recreate the same sound, thankfully he has a nice singing voice too, and it suits this song quite well. Like much of his later stuff, this is just a solid anthem of feel-good music. Musical comfort food.
They only had amps for the guitars so he started out singing over the guitar without a mic. This is not a healthy thing for a singer to do.
We saw him last year and it was an amazing show!
Playing with his sons quite a bit...

+1 cuz this is closer to 8 than 7....LLRP !!
Also love the way Bill sequed into this song from Donovan's Catch the Wind.
Brilliant sonic maneuver! It's why I keep listening to RP!
No way indeed, but that is his natural voice you're listening to!

And the award for the most obliviously unaware comment goes to...
Maybe there is still hope for Van Morrison.
What, he'll not be short fat bald and repetitive no more no more?
I too have seen John live. He gets into it and obviously enjoys the stage. I was never much of a fan until after I saw him live.
So wierd because so many other people really dig it.
I love Fortunate Son, but this song is like nails on a blackboard to me.
Plus
The album cover- is he the King of Wheat or something?
Um, about that killing spree - could you maybe direct it at Congress? And maybe not kill them but paintball the hell out of them? That might satisfy your urge to do damage.
I like this song, but I know Fogerty's got a LOT better stuff in him. Can't wait to hear it!
The A side or the B side?
Maybe there is still hope for Van Morrison.
Get help.
It's a song, like it or leave it, that's all folks.
Ordinary and pleasant song, but you're right about his live show. Fun!

Nice!
Fluid and subtle work on the guitar —> 9
The happy feel this song puts out —> 8
Hmmmm, that would be an 8.5 but that's impossible, so....... a 9
Yeah, that's it in a nutshell. I collect river songs and this one was a happy find

IMHO, he's by far the hottest of the classic rockers. He's actually gotten way better looking with time
I love(d) CCR, but somehow I have a strong feeling their time has gone, musicwise, and will not return for a looong time... And this album stands not sufficiently apart from the old stuff.
Gave it a 6.
I agree. I liked them when they were first out, but I usually change the station when they come on the radio now. This one is just too boring for me.
I'm with you.
Btw - 'Old South Wales': anywhere near Kidwelly (Cydweli)?
And is that whiskey (Wysgi) Penderyn by any chance?

I’ve never been a big CCR fan or a Fogerty fan for that matter, but hearing this song has changed my mind a bit. Certainly enough to want to get this album and see if the rest of it is as good as this track
