Oh
We close our eyes
The perfect life
is all we need

You open up when you had me in your hands
Slipping far away with the world at your command
You sing me to sleep and then you hit me awake
It's a perfect life, a perfect life

I only want to be here when you're by my side
Oh I believe now, I'll love you 'til I die
You will sing me to sleep, you will hit me awake
in the perfect life, the perfect life

Oh
We close our eyes
The perfect life, life
is all we need

Little Mike he, steps everywhere
Knives in his pockets and bullets in his hair
He has nothing to live for, nothing left to say
He's locking all the doors to keep the older wolves at bay

Spoons and foil are all he needs.
A bed and some china
A lighter and some speed
It will sing you to sleep, it will hit you awake
In the perfect life, a perfect life.

(Guitar solo)

Oh
We close our eyes
The perfect life, life
is all we need

Oh
It goes all night
The perfect life, life
is all we need

Oh
We close our eyes
The perfect life, life
is all we need

Oh
We close our mind
The perfect life, life
is all we need

The perfect life, the perfect life, the perfect life
all we need

Guhhhh... boring. Apologies to Moby fans, not my bag.
Just wow!!!

Love this song, and I love the live version even more.

Great song.  And the live version is even more powerful.
Very well written and performed. Music like this is timeless. Beautiful. Perfect!

So I'm not the only one...(keep doing what you do Bill)

The point is to keep it simple.  It's a chant.  Chant works like that.
I probably wouldn't know Moby were it not for RP. Thank you Bill and Rebecca, I really enjoy this music.

Just kind of  resonates after nearly two years of COVID madness

Y'all could just buy your own music, and listen to exactly what you want.  But go for internet radio, you have to take the rough with the smooth. There's always the skip button.

I do and that is all that really matters.
At least it’s got a melody. Great track off a great album. He takes good photos too.

Yes.

I do and if you don't get your own radio station

God, how I love Moby's anthems. Nobody does it better.

I believe you have completely misunderstood the ironic meaning and purpose of this song. A casual reading of the lyrics could correct that, possibly.

Yes, he is a descendant of said writer of shaggy whale story. His parents thought the name Richard Melville might be a bit much for a baby and so nicknamed him Moby.

There's something incredibly depressing in Moby's music for me.
Immense song. Bleak subject matter but utterly uplifting.
Let him be.
Did somebody edit 'speed'? Or did my 'puter glitch at the right moment?

Congrats Richard, your son is a great artist!!!

I'm just here for Wayne Coyne.
Sounds shallow, uninspired, flat, empty, melody written in 5 seconds by a 5 year old chimp and however pretentious. In a nutshell: IT SOUNDS FRENCH.
Wait! It's Moby?? Poor Melville! ;(
Getting some Broken Social Scene vibe on this track. Nice!

EVEN the highest rated tracks here (think Floyd, Jimi, Beatles, Bach, Beethoven) have negative posts and folks saying some version of "this doesn't belong on RP" - whatever BillG sees fit to play fits PERFECTLY here.
Or to use a line from comedian Mitch Hedberg (RIP) "You can't satisfy all of the people all of the time, and last night, all of those people were at my show."
This one's still an 8 for me!
Long Live RP and Bill and Rebecca's playlist decisions!!

Moby is pure rhythmic wonderfulness!

This whole album is on point.

Hey Jude... repeat for five or six minutes. Similar approach.

This song follows the well worn christian rock blueprint of soaring vocals and chorus.  Come on.  Please.
"Feed the world...Let them know it's Christmas time again..."
Moby's time is over.
Moby's music has a positive vibe like 60's and 70's music.
This is so cheesy and calculating in a disgusting manner.

Perhaps, but this doesn't sound very "minimal" to me; it's a pretty lavish production.
Barf. B-barf.

I've generally appreciated Moby's works, but this Arcade-Fire lite song is the definition of a shameless sell-out song. Here we see a professional songwriter aping every dominant trend of current pop music- the gospel choirs, the vague uplifting platitudes. It's somehow worse to see it from someone like Moby, but I guess those penthouses don't pay for themselves. This is the first song that I ever heard on Radio Paradise that I instantly loathed.

I hear only vague echoes of Arcade Fire in this. I do hear southern gospel and field songs married with the lounge lizard techno at which Moby has excelled for 20 years. This is way past the pretentious, monotonous dreck of Arcade Fire.

Who's doing the lauding? Pan and pan, I say! Coldplay have a lot to answer for!

Album cover art is a homage to Richard James.
Albeit lacking in the requisite sinister irony.
I feel like Christ and his volonteers are coming over me...
How close is this refrain to Mike and the Mechanics?
I can do without the wailing...  Hurray for the 'PSD'.
Sing you to sleep and hit you awake--is he talking about a clock radio?

Not among Moby's more impressive efforts.

Vapid.

Even if its heart is in the right place.
gotta love the comments on this song.
2 >1
and I actually like his albums "Play" & "18"!
no, thank you, repetition of this song feels like watered song from his previous albums and his whining got to new extremes {#Eh}

Jah bless Bill for PSD! {#Notworthy}

got this gem: John Cale & Brian Eno — Lay My Love

This is the best song Moby has done in 10 years.  I just got caught up with the rest of his work and now I own a copy of all of his CDs...for me this is a return to what he does best. He seemed off in an intellectual noodling phase like Radiohead is in but now he is back!

I was jammin' to this in my car the other day and this song brought out tears---certainly NOT the kind of tears it brings out in you Mr. Ray!

TRUELY HORRIBLE!
Aaaaaaah, Moby!
Just in time for me to listen to some Floyd!

holler and chants... modern song...
Surprised to see this was Moby!
Sounds like Kelly Family song:-)
Whatever. I like it. We all yearn for a better life- this just brings up how we often play down/block/erase/deaden that which is not conducive to the dream. As for me- well, Eve has been talking up this apple thing and she has been sooo affectionate since she took a bite...
I am SO in the mood for this soaring, overblown orchestration, and the descant soprano solo flying above it all.  Vurrry niiiize.

Please, please, I beg you not to play such songs....it really hurt my ears...

Judy a quick comment: at RP's main page, it states 'eclectic', so I don't see a point. Instead, this music lets us rate it as we think it is. Happy 2014!

It's ok. Quite listenable and pretty much commercial Moby really, was he ever anything other than that? Hell no.

Actually Moby is one of a pair of aliases.  It's the one he uses for all his commercial dreck (AKA the shit that would pay the bills, assuming revenues from Play aren't still paying all the bills).  You want interesting electronica look into anything he's released under the alias Voodoo Child.
It is a Moby revival...
Gentle
Maybe it works better on the album, but by itself this song is all payoff and no build.
