You're dangerous 'cause you're honest
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey
You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left in a beach
Well, you tell me things I know you're not supposed to
Then you leave me just out of reach
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea?
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee?
Well you stole it 'cause I needed the cash
And you killed it 'cause I wanted revenge
Well you lied to me 'cause I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends?
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea?
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee?
Oh, the deeper I spin
Oh, the hunter will sin for your ivory skin
Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees the river laughing at you and me
Hallelujah, heavens white rose
The doors you open
I just can't close
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, your gypsy heart
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, and don't look back
Come on now love, don't you look back!
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea?
Who's gonna taste your salt water kisses?
Who's gonna take the place of me?
Who's gonna ride your wild horses?
Who's gonna tame the heart of thee?
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt

Why is this version measurably different than the one on my iTunes and pod?

Usual mediocre dross.
U2 is highly overrated eclectic vapor. Schalala songs without ANY substance.
Yeah, missing the rich production from the album version.

The chose the right version for the album; this falls flat.
Terrific song — the studio version, that is. This sounds canned, flat and a tad too fast.

Oh, how this incredible band has spoiled its fans to expect the truly miraculous with every effort! In my estimation, there are not many other bands that can even hope to come half as close to that as U2...verily, among all their gems are some exquisite pieces that shine even more brightly still...and some amazing surprises, as well! Bravo, RP for dusting them off and sharing!

Do we need Bono to save the world, or do we need the world to save us from Bono?
Awesome song! You're on a roll. Must be time to send y support via donation!

I don't mind this but it's really a title and then a bunch of cast-off lyrics in search of a tune.
Either that or it was a tune in need of some words that fit it.
I don't care which. Either way, it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Still, it's not bad.

...did they bump up bono's vocals a semitone or two for this remix?..it sounds higher-pitched to my ears than i'm accustomed...
This song would be nearly perfect, if not for the strained rhyming. Having to resort to using the word "thee" in modern English is a bit of a stretch. Otherwise, love it.
As tired as I am of U2, I do like this tune and especially this version. Nice.

Hmm, I thought that was exactly what you were implying, on re-reading it, I still think you implied that the band had lost something with the loss of their "youthful energy" which we must all lose, without choice.
I do admit I didn't read the entire post.

As do we all , you expect them to be more than human?
Where in my post do you see me making this claim? I'm curious to know so I can go edit it. Oh wait, I never said that. Or even implied it as far as I can tell.
And incidentally, a band is more than human. A band is made of more than one person, and the membership is prone to change (though not in this case). I believe though, that a band's lifetime has the same pattern of youth giving way to subtly and maturity that a person's does, regardless of whether the band gains or loses members as time goes on. And I don't see anything wrong with that.

It helps if you think of the Hey hey sha la la's as ironically self-deprecating, stopping short of sarcasm. Delivery is key.

I agree with you. Now, having said that, there is something to be said for the opposite opinion. I notice that many bands start out with a great deal of energy and vigour, and as they mature the music becomes more sophisticated, subtle, experimental, but at some point that band also starts to lose their youthful energy.
The end result is that the great bands have one, maybe two albums where the energy is still quite high, but the band's maturity is starting to show through. As far as I'm concerned, for U2, that album was The Joshua Tree. Everything since has, in many ways, become better as U2 push away from their core sound, try new ideas, etc. but they will never have the punch they did when they recorded Joshua Tree.
So perhaps it's fair to say that everything since Joshua Tree hasn't been as good, but only if one concedes that nothing before Joshua Tree was as good, either. War, Under a Blood Red Sky, etc rocked right out, but were rather naive in their treatments compared to The Joshua Tree and everything else that came later. Achtung Baby, All that You Can't Leave Behind, etc are perhaps more mature and subtle than the Joshua Tree, but they lack its power. That's why JT stands out in peoples' minds as the best.
This song was never anything special to me until I saw the video. It's cute.
Always think "Hey, hey, {Donna Shalala}, sha la la la" when I hear this...
Not my fave U2 track. Not even close.
Really kind of middle of the road.

How anyone can say the last good U2 album was JT is beyond me. Achtung Baby is almost as good and in some ways better, then their other more recent output while not as iconic as JT or AB is still pretty much on the nail and a reflection of them changing direction with the times - some beautiful music in there. I am also just about alone in thinking Zooropa was a wonderful departure for a band in the middle of one of the largest tours in the world for that is when they recorded it. A great band then and now.

I can\'t believe this tune didn\'t make the cut on the upcoming best of 1990-2000. Great song.

But I'll give you that in general, ATYCLB isn't as adventurous as Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop. But I like Wild Honey. It's a nice Beatles (some say Stones) send up, and definitely not like anything they'd done before.
Indistinguishable from about 15 other groups.
