I know it's been a long road
To get these towns behind me and I
Will gladly reap what we may sow I am
There for you and you're there for me

Pictures and photographs
Memories and windows
Goodbyes and epitaphs
Heartbeats and hellos

::Chorus::
Are you waiting for
Heart in hand
Woman and man
See me where I stand I am
Heart
Heart in hand

These fields may hold a hunting ground
But the wolves are far behind me and I
Hear the howls and the distant sound
Of the messengers lost at sea

Into the morning light
Followed by madness
Reach through the empty fight
Searching through sadness

::Chorus::

I know it's been a long road
To get these fears behind me and I
Will gladly reap what we may sow I am
There for you and you're there for me

Pictures and photographs
Memories and windows
Goodbyes and epitaphs
Heartbeats and hellos

::Chorus::

Yes! I was sitting here reading the comparisons and you hit the nail on the head!

It's not bad, but it seems to run together with those others. Nothing wrong with a decent jam band though.

Good description, you nailed it. And nothing wrong with that!

Swear this was Freddy Jones. Opps.
Anyone else hear Stuart Adamson (Big Country) on vocals?
Nothing special.  Bland overated.
Thought it was a bad Toad The Wet Sprocket song.

That would have been better.

Always loved those harmonies on the chorus. Brings the song to life.

Sorry, came over all British there. But it does sound beige, bog standard radio country rock to me. Erm... ok the solo added a little bit of whoop. And then back to the bland.

My thoughts exactly before I read your comment. Amen, Mate
This band would be much better represented on Radio Paradise I think if a few tunes from their 1999 album "Everything You Want" were played over this track.  This is a great representation of how tight they are live, but they've got better songs in their catalog in my opinion.
The Heart in hand/Woman and man  made me think for a moment it was a musical rendition of Trump's cognitive test...

Agree, this one is the only listenable tune from this album, and barely at that.  They took great leaps in songwriting from this one to the next, which is a great album.

Sounds of my still broken heart....13 years on
Some great guitar in there

This takes me back to the first time I heard Frampton Comes Alive. I had never heard of Peter Frampton, but hearing the audience singing along and enthusiastically clapping  along with these unknown songs really made me appreciate the music all the more. Like you said, the power of live music.

And why is everything I'm typing in italics?! Oops, now it's not. WTH?

What?  Why?  Such a low score?  I like.  Quite a bit, actually.

Vague resemblance to Freddy Jones Band. With cheese on top.
Bland.

Always wondered what happens when you play a Christian rock record (or, say this VH song) backwards. Maybe we'd hear Lennon saying, "We're more popular than Jesus now"?

I was scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, past 2012, past, 2010, all the way back to 2007 to find someone with ears like mine.

Far too self conscious, imo.

Yep, that's about the size of it. Those Germans do know how to coin single words which express whole phrases in English, and are often not directly translatable. Zeitgeist, schadenfreude and angst come to mind.

I studied German in school at various levels and I didn't know of this word until now. That's one of the risks you run when learning a language in a formal setting: you don't learn slang/colloquial words like this. You might able to talk about nuclear disarmament or economic crises auf Deutsch, but you'll be hard pressed to chat someone up or schmooze with a waiter.

And yes, this song is spießig.

This is not the best example of Vertical Horizon's work. Everything You Want is much, much better.

Have to disagree with you there. While this song isn't the best example of it, their early stuff is very good, overall. And, while I did like "Everything You Want", it sounds like a completely different band to me. Their earlier stuff had a folk feel to it that they left behind when they made it big with "Everything You Want". For a better representation of their early stuff, listen to some of the other songs on this, particularly "On The Sea", or, better yet, check out Running On Ice, which is their best CD from this period, especially the songs "Wash Away", "Fragments", & "The Man Who Would Be Santa".
Sounds like Dave Matthews on autopilot.

Sounds almost exactly like BaNaL to me. Lame.

Not bad. This could easily be covered by either Bare Naked Ladies or Sister Hazel{#Curtain}

HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA.....  What a hilarious surprise.... Vertical Horizon..  Christian Rock Indeed...   both musically and the lacklustre lyrics...  I have to rate this one a 3 just for humour's sake..  funny.

This sounds like Christian Rock . . . and, yes, that is not a good thing (but it may be a god thing).

EDIT:  It is true that there is no such thing as an original thought (see below).

"Shackled" is one of the best songs ever.  This is a very good band.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Of course.
Indeed.  Makes the pickpockets' job much easier.

Very nice.
Wow, Vertical Horizon is on RP. Great!
Bleah. The only good thing is the name. https://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1207964
maybe it was the fact that my sister put VH on repeat on the way to school for weeks but i can't stand the shrieky one, it's like harmonizing with fingernails on a chalkboard.
Bare Naked Ladies-ish. Where is the 'meh' setting?

Wow, I haven't heard this song in ages...I loved VH's old stuff, especially this album, though this song is a little cheezy to be sure
Sounds like someone's been putting REM on repeat....

Thought it was the Bodeans for a sec.
Wow, this sucks.
I'm trying really hard to keep from changing my 2 to a 1. Must... keep... mouse... away... from... Rate... button...
fades like bleach

I know a lot of Christian rock and have never heard these guys included in that genre. Now if you were to describe them seeking to be the next Toad The Wet Spigot, maybe...

Seems to capture the spirit of the concert pretty well... not necessarily a fan of their music, but I like what I'm hearing on this... as if that makes any sense...?
James Taylor's voice crossed with Great Big Sea's music? Two counts against it for me.
I bought this album back around '99... it's really not bad. Not specatular, but please note that this is not one of the best tracks. "On The Sea" and "Wash Away" shadow this one... much more emotion. I grimace at the fact that FM radio spotlighted their third (electric) album, giving folks the wrong impression of the band.. it started out as just an acoustic duo... which is where the best of their tunes lie.

The vocals have that JT quality. I like it too. Not outstanding, but good!
"These fields may hold a hunting ground But the wolves are far behind me and I Hear the howls and the distant sound Of the messengers lost at sea "
Gets a solid 'meh'
generic - sounds a lot like Christian rock

I have seen them live and loved the sound. I like this song but it may not be there best, please listen to other songs by this group.

Blah, seconded. Seems to lack inspiration.
So weird. I can't say I like this song, but I am thinking of James Taylor, cheesy country ballads, chevy trucks, and that guitar solo out of some electronica jam band scene...
please end
This song sounds like Christian rock meets Kenny Loggins. Blah. Very clean and precise and no soul.
Everything You Want is their best disc in my opinion.

I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of these guys. They must be really awesome in concert! Nice cut! The vocalist has a James Taylor quality to his voice....*edit* oops, just scrolled back to find the JT comments earlier....

"Running on Ice" is a great CD - Original Heart in Hand is on there. Check out all their stuff prior to when they made it big. "There and Back Again" has a great track on it called "Liberty".
I totally agree with this statement. They made a big turn for the worse when they moved to the major label. Their older stuff is great. And for those who like the live music, there's a good bit of bootleg material out there that can be downloaded and/or traded. I've got an awsome live show from the The Wetlands, NY in '95 (along with a couple others from '96 to '97).
Wow, this is suprisingly cool from Vertical Horizon... Granted, I believe this was released before they hit the Top 40 charts, if that Amazon-provided release date is correct.
Thanks for playing my request!! I have liked this band for a long time and haven't heard these good harmonies in quite a while!
Jeez, I thought this was some new JT! Well, a new discovery brought to me by RP and some new CDs by Amazon. :)
Very nice!
