I ain't high on cocaine
I don't need the pain
It's bad for your brain and that's true
I ain't droppin' no names
I ain't playin' no games
I'm just one step ahead of the blues
One step ahead of the blues
From memphis to reno
From new york to tokyo
I'll try to come through for you
I won't do you in
I ain't no fairweather friend
I'm just one step ahead of the blues
One step ahead of the blues
I don't rob, I don't steal
I ain't beggin' no meal
I ain't driven to drink, I'm no fool
I don't run with the crowd
I don't talk big and loud
I'm just one step ahead of the blues
One step ahead of the blues
I've been under a spell
I ain't been feelin' well
I've been in a shell, and that's true
Dealin' with a curse
But it couldn't be worse
I've been one step ahead of the blues
One step ahead of the blues

Was JJ a Joe Walsh fan, or vice versa or botha versa?
Not my preferred stuff so I should move on, but why have they used a pub band bass player?!

I like the song but the vocal track sounds like JJ literally phoned it in.

Probably the first correct use of  "literally" I've seen in a decade.

afore'n the devil knows yer dead...
Man, I’ve worn out one pressing of this classic LP. It’s great to hear it without clicks and pops!
"One step ahead of the blues"; where we would all like to be!  ; )

Great stuff.
Sweet set!

Nice.  I'm not so sure about the album cover though.
"Someday", the most remarkable of the lot

If there is any doubt Eric likes JJ, check out Eric Clapton & Friends - The Breeze (An Appreciation of JJ Cale)

Lots of other artist too like Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty, John Mayer, Willie Nelson...

JJ Cale and Ry Cooder have been generated and inspired a lot of good artists as they followed their dreams. They may not be that well known, but that's because they're not always as polished as the  hit maker machinery likes...

RP plays both in the right dosage. We're made familiar, hear some good music but are not beaten over the head and driven insane by constant replay...

I'm having a Radio Paradise Love Day...  Pretty much I am just enjoying the ride a I play along at work.

sloppy slide guitar always makes me smile

Slow Hand's idol, is he not? or one of them? help me out with this...

I saw an excellent documentary on JJ, and Clapton had some very complimentary things to say about him, which isn't surprising given that several of his biggest hits were JJ covers. Personally I prefer the originals.

This album does not have the polish of his other work. Sometimes I think J.J. is lazy.

;-) lazy (=laidback) is his middlename.
& that's the reason the music is that good ;-)

I know he's no Dylan, but I've always liked JJ, and this is no exception.
He might not be Dylan, but he sure as hell can play the guitar better.
Bill, you are tearing it up this Friday afternoon! I'm having to refrain from cranking up the volume, as my officemates aren't as musically adventurous as I am (and most folks here are).
I know he's no Dylan, but I've always liked JJ, and this is no exception.
Clapton jacked more than just J.J.'s sound; he took a couple songs, "Cocaine" being the most notable. Cale wrote quite a few songs that were made popular by other artists, so in that sense yes, his stuff commercial... but its being bought by other rock legends. Sorta like Dylan without the poetry.
JJ Rocks, Grasshopper is a good album. I always wondered where E.C. got his sound. (pimp)
J.J. was about as commercial as they came...
Sounds great! Thanks RP! only complaint is the shortness of the song but......thats coo (pimp)
