I saw Neil Young do this entire album live in London, and in my opinion it was the best concert I have ever attended. Judging by the reaction of the 3000 or so others in the crowd, they pretty much agreed too. I've been to an awful lot of gigs from the 60's on, so got quite a few to compare this one to. Each to his own opinion of course. Anyhow gets a rare 10 from me

I like Neil but sometimes I think he gets a little lazy too. I'm thinking of the "one-note" guitar solo - I think it's on Cowgirl in the Sand.

Neil Young is the most overrated "singer" in the history of the world. Maybe he's a decent guitar player, but hearing his voice is like someone running their fingernails down the chalkboard... He's the only one on RadioParadise I could do without.

To my ears the strongest songs on the album - and the ones that work well even outside the context of the storyline - are the first and last songs on Greendale: "Falling From Above" and "Be The Rain". Quite surprised that neither have been played on RP. The cd/dvd combo is a great value. And the concept/storyline is nicely fleshed out with the accompanying booklet written by Neil himself. Then, on the dvd, Neil amiably and intimately tells the story and plays the songs acoustically. I agree with others that hearing most of these songs outside the context of the story may not work too well...with the exceptions of "Falling From Above" and "Be The Rain".

It's interesting to read these comments. It's sometimes hard to appreciate the Greendale songs out of their context within the entire album. But I'm glad RP is giving Neil's Greendale some airplay. Certainly Clear Channel stations aren't playing it. Like many of Neil's songs it's often best appreciated live in concert. Certainly the density of the lyrics isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thanks RP for giving Greendale tracks some air time. I hear you saying "The critics have been universally vicious in their reviews". Well, the critics were "universally vicious" with Tonight's The Night and On The Beach, also.

lets see... chop this "song" into a third... replace the "lyrics" with random mumbling... and the score could rise a couple points...

It's a shame that such a bad song also has to be so long...

Pretty sure this song needs to be heard in the context of the entire album, which very few people have heard at this point. The song is pretty good on its own, but perhaps better when listened to along with the whole story. Regardless, to write a theme album is a bold step by Neil...as always.

I like it. It sounds like he just realized that the whole alt.country thing was in his honor. I give it a 7 with the understanding that I might switch to 8 later, okay? I just went to look at it on Amazon and it's No. 1 there... fwiw

If this is a sample of Neil\'s current work, it\'s time to hang it up. The combination of lousy guitar-playing and Neil\'s mediocre vocals is just too much for any mortal to take.

Neil Young is not god neither perfect!!! He has made some incredible good songs, but this one is too long and boring... that's why it has a 3,5 and going down... .... ...

Crazy Horse is best when they rock. The story telling should be done on Neil's solo efforts. I'm a big Neil fan but this guitar is terrible.
