At the beginning it sounded to me like a very strange cover of "the passenger"...

I liked it more that way :)

Is that Betty or Veronica on the keyboards? I can never remember.
Stop talking over each other!  I am getting a headache!

greetings mr. José-Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao -   ** 7 **

Always nice.
king of bongo...kind of boring
Love Manu Chau, Mano Negra?... try then a bit of Kevin Johansen. Very refreshing.

Excuse my musical ignorance, is Mano Negra at all related to Manu Chau? The CD is king of Bongo, a dig at Bongo Song by Manu?
As already said, Manu Chau was a member of Mano Negra.

Manu Chao's solo albums "Clandestino" and "Próxima Estación Esperenza" came AFTER this Mano Negra song
Manu Chao recycles music and lyrics a LOT. IIRC there are at least 2 Manu Chao songs with similar "King of bongo" lyrics.
This was a nice cut with a catchy rhythm.

Dear MojoJojo, Sorry for you. This disease happens when abusing form the same local music and tones again and again. It slowly deactivate your ears against other respectable musics from the rest of the world and make them painful when exposed. There is a cure: try gentle strokes of other musical genres on a daily basis. Take 5 minutes of classical in the morning while having breakfast, try some other on your way to work, etc.. an soon after you will recover a fully operative and ecclectic hearing which is a pre-requisite for RP listeners. Most of all I did not criticize your musical taste which remains yours and is fully respectable. It was just a matter of dicussing about the enjoyment of an extreme musical diversity. Can you tell us why you dislike Mano Negra that much ? Their use of Spanish language ?

from the AMG link above:
Named in honor of an Andalucian anarchist group, Mano Negra emerged from the same Parisian artists' scene which also gave rise to the like-minded Les Negresses Vertes, drawing equal influence from the punk ethos of the Clash and the multitude of sounds and rhythms endemic to the global music community. Formed in 1986 from the remnants of the neo-rockabilly unit the Hot Pants, Mano Negra essentially consisted of vocalist Manu Chao, his trumpeter brother Tonio and drummer cousin Santiago Casiriego, Spanish natives who fused rock, rap, flamenco and rai to create a heady brew they dubbed "Patchanka," a name derived from a Spanish pejorative for dancehall music. Mano Negra's debut LP, also titled Patchanka, appeared in 1988, scoring the French indie hit "Mala Vida
