A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving
Now the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven
I wish you would

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California
I think you should

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 AM
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean
I guess I should

As far as songs go, this is the perfect one to compare to 2020.  Pure crap.
It’s 2 days til Christmas 2020. The longest November turned into A Long December. “A long December and there's reason to believe Maybe this year will be better than the last” this is exactly what I needed to hear today. This is why radio matters, songs played by real people at the perfect time! Thank you Radio Paradise!
This song definitely feels a lot more different coming out of this year. Happy New Years everyone!~

2020 says "Hold my beer"

Never noticed this song before, but it does seem to catch my mood this month and year.  Amused to see previous comments.  Maybe 2020 doesn't have a stranglehold on pure crappiness.
I have always loved this song, but never has it been more poignant than in 2020!
This song was made for 2020 ! everytime  december comes i think of this beautiful song.

Greetings to everyone !

Well... yeah, about that... we just redefined dumpster fire and lowered the bar in 2020. I'm not even going to speculate on 2021 or jinx it in any way.
Too much whining about whining!

If you have tickets I'll take em
These guys are playing a private party in conjunction with the Detroit Auto Show in January. "Fun." is the warm up. Talk about a mismatch...

I think I'll find something else to do that night.

Yes! Especially in the last few days of December....

Singer has been listening to Jackson Browne.
Oh thank you, Bill.   Again.  Cannot tell you how this song touches me.
Ugh. Again.

Just 2 more days, thankfully.

Yeah,

It's been a long December here in Syracuse, NY. We had over 6 feet of snow in roughly 2 weeks time. Get up, shovel the driveway, clear off the car, drive through slop to work.

Next day: get up, shovel the driveway, clear off the car, drive in slop.

Oh well, don't have hurricanes or flooding to deal with and the neighborhood isn't going up in smoke because we built the house in a friggin desert. But we still have our share of weather and environment to deal with!

Thank God Bill only plays this in December. It's a terrible song. Many better songs on this album.

And yes, Adam is the WhineKing!{#Sunny}

Luckily (for my ears) December comes only once a year.

This brings back 1996 in a big way.
Checking out the comment history on this song... limited to being played almost exclusively in December... and often Dec. 31st.  Good stuff Bill & Rebecca!

I do not mute, but force myself to listen; as I am clearly being punished for some horrible sin I can not remember committing. I have been bad. I deserve this.

 I like the CC's  {#Bananajam}  somewhat

But I like Taraincognito's comment  {#Biggrin}  even more.

Zing! Manufactured emotion slathered on to a minor key to ring registers. I kinda liked this song when it was "Please come to Boston" in 1974 by Dan Loggins on top 40

**falls over from the joy**
Man, there's a reason why I listen.  You're playing this after Tori Amos' Pretty Good Year and U2's Running to Stand Still.
Thank you for your work, BillG!  :)

Bill....  Kudos to the remaining applicable to the season yet avoiding all the cliche, generic, typical, traditional christmas music.  You're great.
Counting crows...YES!  This song...not so much.  {#Stupid}
I always liked this song.

You need to look deeper into the chorus of this song to realize lyrical genious. Mr. Durlitz is not meerely singing nah nah nah yeah because he couldn't think of anything clever to say... he is expressing indecision and the quandry of internal self-contradiction. The chorus starts with denial, singing "nah, nah, nah..." followed by subtle acceptance: "yeah"... Then, at the very end of the song, "yeah" is repeated, an affirmation of the solitude and introspective self-exploration that is a long december. (insert emoticon representing sarcasm here.)

This isn't nearly as annoying as Mr. Jones, by far. Still sucks, though, just because Adam Durwitz is singing.
Mr. Jones is more commecially popular and overplayed, thus regardless of the relative merits of the songs, it has a lower rating... Personally, I like CC, at least the first two albums (though the second showed signs of the suckdom to come).
This band owes me big time. I loved and still love August and Everything After. Too bad everything after August and Everything After sucks ass.

OK, I really hate this band. I said it. Counting Crows is just painfully whiny.

I am in love with Adam! He is an amazing poet and has the voice of an angel, don't care what anyone says. Have been a hardcore Counting Crows since August and Everything After....and haven't gotten sick of them yet! They put on a helluva show, even when it's freezing and an outdoor concert. Troopers!
The only real great thing about this song is that it is at the end of the album. The album as a whole is so much better than this dribble. Have all their albums, saw them in concert and yet this song still grates. Solid 3 (and that's being generous).
Pearl Jam gets a "boring" but not Counting Crows? Where's forum quality control?
a long december. and it's not even winter yet. f*&$ i need to leave chicago.
I remember seeing the Crows live last year, and singing "na na na na, na na na na na na na na. na na na na YEAH" over and over, like an idiot. And I actually do like this song, but nothing compares to Mr. Jooonnneeesss and me!!! To be honest, the Counting Crows put on a good live show.

Two little lines make this song for me: All at once you look across a crowded room To see the way that light attaches to a girl Nice bright little lyric in a rather dreary song.

My best memories of this song... Christmas break, we left cold, snowy Ohio for the Florida Keys. On the way down to Key West, blasting this song as we drove across 7-mile Bridge...
drover wrote:

Nope. I can't stand these guys. Such whiney nonsense. The endless "Yeaaahh..." at the end of this song is especially irritating.

Not so. I also find them intolerable. So depressing.

I never can get enough of the Counting Crows
Ahh, lest we forget to count the crows.
I love this album....and yet I haven\'t listend to it in at least a year.
Haven\'t heard this for a while. Reminds me how much great stuff the Counting Crows have done.
haven\'t heard this song in forever - still makes me sort of sad, particularly after this december, it was kinda long for me. thanks for playing it.
